So much has happened this year. Started doing this as my job - now forgot what it was like to work for someone else.

Just wondered what everyones personal highlight of the year was. I have so many, from selling my house (after losing job and no money to pay morgage) - that was a huge relief, and moving back to my wife's home land of Tenerife.

As far as affiliate marketing is concerned though I have to say that my personal highlight of this year relating to this business was watch the balance in CJ go over $1000 for the first time. This was a recent high and one that probably gave me the biggest kick of the year.

What was your best moment of 2002?

My highlight has to be the huge sales I got in August and September, enough to see me through until the end of next year, which is a good thing because my sales now are bad

Personal Highlights:
1. Refinanced in April to bring my mortgage down a few hundred dollars per month (hallelujah).
2. Quit my day job in November as somebody stepped on my toes while I was running out of patience.

Affiliate Highlights:
1. Well, I'm doing this full time now.
2. November was the best month so far.
3. December looks even better.
4. I'm more ambitious than ever.

The Best Moment in 2002:
When I told my boss he's on his own.

Andy, keep building pages. Very soon you'll be watching your CJ balance goes over $2K, and more each month. Tell yourself you can do it, and you'll do it!

Same here - I did manage to restrain myself from taking a screenshot, though. I figured it would only make me sad in January when the number drops after the holidays.

I probably will take a screen shot so that when CJ is down i can use it for my wallpaper. Am going to wait until just before CJ take out the money though as i will probably go over $2000 in the next couple of days - gonna be close.....

For me
1. Quitting my job i had for 12 years to do affiliate marketing full time. I did this while i was only making $300 a month in affiliate marketing.

2. Parents and girlfriend wondering when i was going to get a "real job" while i was telling them this is my job. Knowing they thought nothing would come of this.

3. Took a few months trying things out, seeing what works and how to do things. Becoming one with Google. Now i know what to do, its just a matter of doing it now.

4. My goal starting out was just to make more than i did the previous month and by December to make at least what i did at my old job.

5. For the last 3 months, i'm making 3 times what i was making at my old job.

6. Me now

Highlights for me, both business and personal include:

Paid off 3 credit cards.

A dedicated server, which I had wanted since way back when I only had a free site.

The new Mercury Grand Marquis.

Cable Internet connection.

Making last year's earnings look like peanuts.

Being able to say "peanuts!" to bills that were "something" last year.

Quitting the j*b isn't this year's highlight since I quit that stuff before this year. But FREEDOM is always a highlight, every year!

And as always, the Holiday Season, where everything sells and the transactions come in fast and furious!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! ~From a "Golden Era" Christmas Song

Building 3 more fairly extensive sites starting aprox. last December. I came on here, got a bit of web design feedback and then proclaimed on here they were only designed to sell sell sell.
Ditching trying to get my content site make money Seeing that first cheque from CJ.
Now sees a cheque everymonth from CJ. Now also seeing cheques fron 2 - 4 other places most months.
For any newbies lurking. My best move was coming in here, being pro active on the board and while I am no whiz on this have picked up enough to generate some $$$.
As an example I just started a really, really basic site, some free and trial stuff, the program has links basically just allow a cut and paste and put in on my page taking about 30 seconds. Just got spidered last month, have to tweak a bit after seeing which pages got spidered and made 5 sales from it past 10 days. Site still sees little traffic. None of it is Christmas stuff so the season isn't a factor.
My first attempts on my content site took 10 MONTHS to make that many sales.
So by far being active in ABW has been the top reason and highlight of 2002 for being in this and making some money.

One of my highlights of 2002 was discovering reseller wehosting accounts. Having multiple domains, I'm no more dependent of the support crew at my hosting providers to create new accounts for me, or move or close down old ones, or reissue a password.

Now I create or close my own accounts on the fly, based on which domains I want to use, I have my own name servers and complete control over passwords. And it's only a fixed fee of $30 month.

Another highlight was disovering ABW. I have never learned so much in such a short time, and for the first time I'm convinced it's possible to make a living doing business on the internet without coming up with a unique product or making major investments.

Thankyou all !

My highlight were to see my CJ balance reach $1000.00 for the first time and even better it has just hit $2000.00 so hopefully if I can figure out how to open these gigantic datafeeds that CJ have so kindly changed just as I got to understand the old type I might be able to retire.

Baccillus,
Care to elaborate on this? Is it a generic method of having your sites listed with Google fast?

Simple,

Link your new site, Pages on a higher ranked page/site and the spiders will do the rest.

Btw, Dont forget to optimize the newer page/site

Congratulations on the $1000. Great isn't it. My CJ has gone over $2000 last week too - maybe a little late for $3000 this month?

Regarding MySQL. I can recommend Kevin Yank's Using PHP & MySQL. Very easy to understand and gets you up to speed fast.

My biggest highlight this year is that I finally opened a bank account in UK and started to get DDs for payments. gosh you cant believe the relief! Besides that I'm gonna get a satellite connection in a few days and bye bye to dial up. Although it's one way it'll be fast in downloads and opening pages [ie. CJ product searches hehe]

And in the last months I've doubled my income since last summer although I'm having bad times with google this month..I could have tripled my income this month..

1. Started affiliate marketing in October 2002 on a whim. Saw my first check, $300.

2. Looked at my check for November and I've gone over the $1000 mark. Nice Milestone.

My highlights are I think is finding out what works best for me.
Just because you would expect a shopping site be a certian way does not mean that I have to make it that way.
It seems the hardest part was finding out what I want to do, and doing it completely different.
I figured that it wouldn't work and gave it a shot but it seemed to work for me, the bank account says so..
Now more than ever I really love to find niche markets and do things differently and not scared of the results, just giving it a shot.

1) seeing the first "real" commission check after building the site and content for almost a year. (Commission generated by Users (Strangers) and not by me, friends or family).

2) paying my vaction with commission made with the website

3) switching our CJ Commission alert to notify us via SMS, when more than $50 additional commissions was earned (first was every commission, then $10, then $30, now $50)

4) Winning the Tiger Direct Affiliate Contest ($1500 Bonus)

5) making more than $3000 in commission this month

6) just the fact, that its going so well and that the time spent is now paying off

3) Cutting my teeth on my first site (not a single sale yet...)

In April I closed down a bricks & mortar business to focus on affiliate marketing. Income from affiliate marketing exceeded $10k in August and has averaged that since, except here in December where I've reached $10k already.

Closing the business and getting a laptop have freed me to travel, which I've done and has lifted enormous burdens like having employees, carrying inventory, etc.

This is all very gratifying. Bear in mind that I've been in this for quite a while. Persistence will reward you in this game. You must work very hard and learn, learn, learn, especially SEO.

4 Months ago i started marketing TigerDirect...
I won $1000 from them last month (woo hoo!)

About 2 months ago, my programming job dried up.

The content site that I have been building for 2 years never got over about 2k in business per month so I had to find something else to do.

** I am now officialy out of the content business and into the marketing business **. Thanks to ABW, I became a believer that you could make a living doing this kind of work.

This December (a little late for this years rush) I launched about 8 sites. I plan to launch 5 new sites per month for all of 2003.
