    Question Domain Squatter question
A client contacted me today for some advice.

They represent an up and coming musician who just recorded a national record.

They are interested in getting a website up and going, but discovered every variation of the musicians name had been registered by one individual, including official_insert_name_here.com.

This person has never developed the sites and they are asking a HUGE amount of money for the domains.

Does the musician have any recourse or are the S.O.L.? (I suspect they are)

    Any input would be appreciated!

    Hi ~Michelle,
Well, from what I understand, one can pay $1500 and file a grevance with ICANN and have that person stop using that domain. I'm not quite sure what the conditions are, if any, where you can get control of that domain.

Check out the Dispute Rules here...

Another option is to hire CitizenHawk.com. I met Graham, Pres/CEO, at the Summit. Seems like a really good service.

yep, UDRP is the answer. contact an intellectual property attorney that specializes in Internet cases and this one should be an easy win with a letter from the attorney saying you're moving towards UDRP procedings unless immediately resolved.

save copies of everything they have on the websites right now - your attorney will explain why you may need that later.

    i'm not a lawyer.

    Thanks guys.

I have made copies of all the whois info on each site. I have found a quite a few more variations of this artists name that the same person has registered.

I will pass the info on.

DOUBLE that advice!! Screen shots of all pages with dates showing in the margins, right now, before you make a move. Cause the second you start and action, the site will disappear. (Been there. Seen it.)

As Donuts says, should be quick and easy. Good luck.
