If I could share one thing...
I was reading Golf Digest the other day and they talked about the top 50 instructors in the USA. They asked each one to share the most important tip they could give the average golfer.

It made me think about the knowledge pool here in this forum and how impressive it would be if everyone took a couple minutes and offered the one piece of advice they felt would be most beneficial to those that look for direction and opinions.

So, anyone up for sharing the one thing they feel is most important to be successful in affiliate marketing?

Diversify your income. Do not rely on a single merchant, vertical market or network.

Diversify your traffic stream. If you optimize only for Google you risk losing your traffic when their algorithm changes.

Yes, but where is your tip?

I don't know how good this tip might be to others, but when I came to ABW on 03' looking for how to use datafeeds, I wish I would had started to learn PHP back then, and not waste three years before I took the leap.

So my guess is that for anyone new at this, if they think they're going to stick at it for the long run, it would be a good idea for them to learn PHP and MySQL now, and not a few years from now.

Treat it like a business and act accordingly. Never pay for advice, only real parts of the business, like quality hosting.

I'll say one word: innovate, introduce something new. Don't follow others, it's already too late.

Diversify, not just for security of income (which is very improtant), but also for continual exploration - it adds fun and leads to discovering and learning.

Get away from your computer from time to time, don't check your email, and leave your cell phone off. That is: get out and relax without business weighing you down. You'll come back sharper and you'll make more money.

    Use a good analytics program.

If you don't know exactly what your visitors are doing on your site, you won't know what to change and how your changes worked or didn't work.
