Speaking in Montreal: What would you like to know
I thought I would solicit the group to see what they would be most interested in hearing during my presentation in Montreal.

As background, I run a company that monitors email marketing campaigns. We provide competitive information to affiliates, publishers, brands and agencies so they can see what the competition is doing, find new affiliates, monitor their affiliate networks, research new offers, see what the creative looks like, see who is working with who, and which offers drove the most traffic.

I'll be speaking on email and affiliate marketing this month at the Montreal show and I'd be curious what info people would like to see: Which market sectors and offers send the most email? Which offers drive the most traffic? Creative views? What? What would be really great to know if you are a publisher or an advertiser when it comes to email.

It is called the casino affiliate show I believe. Am I allowed to post links here? I thought that was against the rules. Sorry - newbie poster.

Don't do it on my account. I'm not interested in casinos. Thanks anyway.

    Hi Bill -

How do you "see" into what others are sending via email?

We've been opting in to receive marketing messages for over 4 years. We do everything with unique email addressess and we are now on thousands of lists. We sign up at affiliate sites, publishers, internal lists, etc. When an email comes in we go through all the links and map the offer page to the email so you can see all the emails that are driving traffic to a particular domain. We monitor about 30,000 domains. We overlay web stats that we get from Alexa so you can start to see if the email created a spike in traffic to the site, the relationship between web site traffic data and the email. We also record all the redirects and show you up stream and downstream views. You can search the data base by any key word or phrase so you can see,for instance, how popular a particular subject line is. You can also see the creative, what other advertisers are using the list, what other lists each advertiser is working with. We work with many of the top folks in the email marketing space.

If you are familar with tools like Hitwise or Adrelevance, we are like that expect we focus 100% on email.

Bill, there is a post about this convention in the events and gatherings section.

    http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=92542

I would say that if you want to talk about something e-mail marketing related to help affiliates and merchants....talk about CANSPAM, the FTC, ways that you can protect yourself from rouge affiliates as a merchant, ways to protect against an affiliate who then creates a third party agreement and that affiliate goes rouge and spams. Or even how the affiliate can double check their lists against states that have do not e-mail lists, etc....

Then maybe talk about split testing and landing page development. One thing which is key to remember, IMO, is to talk about subject matter related to e-mail marketing and how affiliates and merchants can utilize it, and not how your company's product can do it. Each lecture I have sat in and someone did that, it felt like an infomercial and like I wasted my time when I could have been learning something. I am not saying you would do that, just saying that I always just walk out now when speakers start to do that.

Another thing to maybe talk about are the voodoo thoughts on e-mail like using the word free, or red letters in the body of the e-mail, charecter counts in the subject line, urls in the body and other ways to not get caught in the spam filters as well as still not breaking any laws.

Just my opinion on what would make something interesting for me.

Thanks for the valuable insight. I agree with you about people who use a speaking opportunity as a sales pitch. I try and avoid that when I speak, unless I need to show our product to make a specific point.
