Yes, the walk between my office and the kitchen is a killer. I wish I could find an easier route.

they do. Spoke to some ppl in NYC and it's part of life.

I used to drive 1 - 1.25 hrs on a good day to get to work, not to mention the toll all the way *Ouch. NPR was great during those drives though.

Brian I was in the city and I waited over an hour for my train. Actually I didn't think that was bad at least I got a train. Most people didn't have that luxury today. I was soaking wet on a hot subway station then got in a freezing air conditioned subway car for an hour. Not a good combo at all, I am sure I will be sick.

Could be worse I could have been caught up in that tornado in Brooklyn.

I could hook up my Google fridge right next to my computer and hook this bad boy up:

But that would be too geeky I still can't believe they made a George Foreman USB Grill

That was no tornado, that was the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Seriously though, Brian, during the Mets game tonight they showed some video of the area around Shea and it looked like a mess. Three inches of rain in an hour! That's bad news. Hope you made it home alright.

Kensigton Brooklyn tornado and the aftermath.

My commute is 30 feet, but even at 12:30-1:00 am it can take up to a full minute, stepping over all the sleeping dogs and cats. Now, when I have to make the 40-50 mile round trip into LA that I used to make daily, (let alone the "side" trips to Van Nuys, Long Beach, Santa Monica, etc. etc.), I absolutely die. After almost seven years of the 30 ft commute, I could never go back to that daily drive (or on some days commuter train ride) again.

Oh, Trust, an iGrill would be great, until the grease drips all over your keyboard

I recently moved my entire office and doubled my commute. I was reminded of my bad decision today.

I had to make it all the way from the back patio, through the dining room, past the kitchen, down the hall, through the garage and all the way to the end of the driveway to get the mail. Then I had to go all the way back. It was dreadful.

I was going to move my office back, but I didn't want to have to move all that stuff again. (a coffee pot, laptop, and an ashtray) That would have been too much for one day.

Forget the commute, what about the stuff you have to do before you even head out? Having a shower, getting dressed, etc. Ugh! What a pain that can be sometimes...

I ended up not going to the office yesterday and worked from home. All the subways were suspended in the morning and the buses kept bypassing my stop because it was already full.

But today it was back to being squished between two huge guys and getting elbowed in the face on the subway. Gotta love those morning commutes!
