Songs that make you tear up
Hubby and I were talking about songs that make you cry or make you teary-eyed. I thought this would make for an interesting conversation here. I know the women will participate but I hope the guys will own up, too.

The two that slay me are Fast Car by Tracy Chapman and Long and Winding Road by The Beatles (you can hear that Paul was crying as he sang it).

What songs get under your skin like that? :blubbering:

I can't hate you anymore by Nick Lachey...but that was after a really bad breakup. If you are in that situation then avoid that song at all costs. Another one is Looking In by Mariah Carey- very depressing.

    Pearl Jam - Last Kiss

Where, oh where, can my baby be? the lord took her away from
Me. shes gone to heaven, so Ive got to be good. so I can see my baby when i
    Leave this world.

We were out on a date in my daddys car. we hadnt driven very far. there in
The road, straight ahead. a car was stalled, the engine was dead.

I couldnt stop, so I swerved to the right. Ill never forget the sound that
Night. the screamin tires, the bustin glass. the painful scream that I heard
    Last.

Oh where, oh where, can my baby be? the lord took her away from me. shes gone
To heaven, so Ive got to be good. so I can see my baby when I leave this world.

When I woke up the rain was pourin down. there were people standin all around.
Something warm flowing through my eyes. but somehow I found my baby that night.
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said. hold me darling, just a little
While. I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss. I found the love that i
    Knew I had missed.

Well now shes gone. even though I hold her tight. I lost my love, my life,
    That night.
Not only is it sad, but is a lasting memory .....

Don't know if its only the lyrics or the way the lyrics are delivered but Time of Your Life by Green Day gets me teary for some reason:

    Another turning point

A fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist

    Directs you where to go

So make the best of this test

    And don't ask why

    It's not a question

But a lesson learned in time

    CHORUS:

    It's something unpredictable

But in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

    So take the photographs

And still frames in your mind

    Hang it on a shelf

Of good health and good time

    Tattoos of memories

    And dead skin on trial

    For what it's worth

It was worth all the while

    CHORUS

That song was originally "Teen Angel" by Mark Dinning (one hit wonder). Gets me every time, too. Teen drama at its finest. LOL

Another one that hits the emotional trigger is "100 Years" by Five For Fighting:

    I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
    And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
    I'm 22 for a moment
    She feels better than ever
    And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
    I'm 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I'm a they
    A kid on the way
    A family on my mind
    I'm 45 for a moment
    The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
    Within a morning star
15 I'm all right with you
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
    Half time goes by
    Suddenly youíre wise
    Another blink of an eye
    67 is gone
    The sun is getting high
    We're moving on...
    I'm 99 for a moment
    Dying for just another moment
    And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
15 there's still time for you
    22 I feel her too
    33 youíre on your way
    Every day's a new day...
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

My daughter was 15 when this song came out. Could explain the emotional reaction I have to it. ;-)

I'm sure I'll come up with plenty more. Good one Rhea! :-)

These guys are Canadian, as obvious in the lyrics. Think you'd have to hear it to truly get it though.

"Wheat Kings" by The Tragically Hip

edit: <removed lyrics> Actually, you can look up the lyrics on your own. The recording industry is going NUTS suing people for republishing lyrics, and even guitar tablature... So, I'll not put H's forum in the line of fire.

Ok, that last one was a joke.

I played with a group in college that did music from "Rent." Our lead female vocalist did SUCH an amazing job with the "Seasons of Love" solo that I teared up every time I heard it - and I played it weekly for 2.5 years. Hearing it STILL gets me.

I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack

    And

    Always by Saliva

I hear, a voice say "Don't be so blind"
It's telling me all these things
    That you would probably hide
Am I, your one and only desire
Am I the reason you breathe
Or am I the reason you cry?

Always, always, always, always, always, always,
I just can't live without you...

    I love you
    I hate you
    I can't live around you.
    I breathe you
    I taste you
    I can't live without you.
    I just can't take anymore
    This life of solitude
I guess that I'm out the door
And now I'm done with you.

(Done with you, done with you, done with you, done with you, done with you)

I feel, like you don't want me around
I guess I'll pack all my things
I guess I'll see you around
It's all, been bottled up until now
As I walk out your door
All I can hear is the sound

Always, always, always, always, always, always,
I just can't live without you...

    I love you
    I hate you
    I can't live around you.
    I breathe you
    I taste you
    I can't live without you.
    I just can't take anymore
    This life of solitude
I guess that I'm out the door
And now I'm done with you.

    I love you
    I hate you
    I can't live without you.

I left my head around your heart,
Why would you tear my world apart?

    Always, always, always, always.

I see, the blood all over your hands
Does it make you feel, more like a man
Was it all, just a part of your plan
The pistol's shakin' in my hands
And all I hear is the sound.

    I love you
    I hate you
    I can't live around you.
    I breathe you
    I taste you
    I can't live without you.
    I just can't take anymore
    This life of solitude
I guess that i'm out the door
And now i'm done with you.

    I love you
    I hate you
    I can't live without you.
    I love you
    I hate you
    I can't live without you.
    I just can't take anymore
    This life of solitude
I pick myself off the floor,
And now i'm done with you.

    Always
    Always
    Always.

Sarah McLachlan - Arms Of An Angel

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZHrbjhwKik

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it ok
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction, oh beautiful release
    Memories seep from my veins
They may be empty and weightless, and maybe
    I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of an Angel, fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference, escaping one last time
    It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees

In the arms of an Angel, far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

This song I happened to come across right after my brother passed on 2 years ago, and everytime I hear it since then I just start balling.

It's called I grieve : by Peter Gabriel
on the City of Angels sound track incase anyone is curious.

I think the last two posts are both off of the City of Angels soundtrack. That's a great soundtrack btw. It also has an excellent U2 song on there if I recall.

This is not on the soundtrack, and I'm not the biggest country fan... but The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery is very touching. Good song if you haven't heard it.

I had to think hard on this one, because it's usually movies and TV and not music that make me tear up (too many of them to count! I just watched the movie "Crash" yesterday, second time I've seen it, and I was practically bawling at that scene where the locksmith guy's little girl jumps in the way of the gun even though I knew what was going to happen). Anyway:

    "Imagine" - John Lennon

    "Sad Lisa" - Cat Stevens

"Winter" by Tori Amos makes me mist up a little.
