    Tracking is affected
I'll start by saying that I have not been very active with linkshare so take this with a grain of salt, but after logging in for the first time in months I found that I was receiving traffic for merchants that I never even joined nor do i have the ability to create links for.

Could LS be running a script that spreads phoney clicks spread evenly across their masses of affiliates to hide the no-click/forced cookie stats of their BHO partnerships. The actual merchant management (Not hired gun AMs) want to see real network click/impression stats for the millions they pay out in commissions in the merchant admin area. So LS gives them what appears to be physical clicks/impressions seeded into active affiliate accounts.

    Just a thought.

It could actually be anyone creating artificial clicks. For that matter, since Linkshare is so stupid as to put * /s and other characters in their reference tags, it could just part of the large amount of affiliate traffic that is lost because different browsers, routers and filters interpret such characters differently.

    mrbshouse,
I talked to our tech team to see why you would see traffic for merchants that you are not partnered with. They suggested that the merchant may have sent you an email and included a tracking code in the message that inserted your affiliate ID.

If you want, please PM me your LinkShare username and the merchant you are questioning. I can look into this for you.

PM sent and after taking the time to detail the inaccuracy, i want to stick my head in the sand ... (Mods if you feel it correct please change the title of this thread and i'll try not to post new threads after coding all night)

the issue could be promo emails... just impressions no click throughs, but i still find it very odd that anything would track in such a case, in this scenario if every retailer on linkshare sent me an email I would have all of them listed on the reports, as well as every other affiliate using linkshare which would waste huge amounts of CPU time for no reason.

Is there any way for affiliates to tell exactly where traffic is coming from, based on site or even display URL?

I've had the same thing happen and posted about it a couple of months ago. It only happens when he merchant includes pre-coded links in the email with your ID. I thought it strange that I was showing clicks to a merchant whose program I didn't belong to until I realized that the link to their site was also encoded.
