What do YOU consider a good paying MERCHANT?
I've been delving around your great site for a while now and have come to a very disturbing conclusion.

Tons of you folks think that an affiliate program paying 5% or 10% is a good deal.

I totally agree with some of the companies promoting aff programs, that they can't pay any more than 10% from the gross.

    SO WHY AFFILIATE WITH THEM?????????

There are so many aff programs out there that pay per sign up from $7.00 - $65.00.

If you start a floral site, that may be tough to get.

If it is home / home owner related - things are different.

As well as many other NICHES!

I think that some of you set your goals too low.

Find the affiliates that are going to send you $10,000 plus checks a month.

Too many $50.00 checks roaming around here and some are happy with it.

I know I'm a dork for bringing it up, but have been dying to say it for weeks.

Set your goals higher and make some REAL CASH!

    Of course it's IMHO ~

The percentage is just one thing. You have conversion rate, average order size, all kinds of things. In the end it's if you're making money. I like EPC. I like to look at my EPC with various merchants and the ones with the highest are the ones I try to send the most traffic too.

Let's say I have 2 pet merchants. One pays 10%, the other 5%.

What if after some time and traffic I find that I have a $80 EPC with the 5% merchant and a $40 EPC with the 10% merchant? You're doing better with that 5% merchant.

Some affiliates will automatically discount merchants if they see a low commission percentage but they might actually make more with them compared to a merchant in the same category with a higher commission rate. You have to test.

I don't think you can make 10k / month w/ most programs unless you are generating 500,000 uniques a day!

Did you listen to the last person that told you the same?

I have nothing to gain by helping you folks if I can, and putting my 10 years of trial and error out for you to judge yourself.

I just read too many threads from pretty nice sites that say " Made my first sale " Made $32 bucks! - WOOOHOOO

Since you must be the exception to the rule, I imagine you are making some great bucks.

Is it against the rules to make more?

Just another quick example. One of my best merchants pays 1-3%. My EPC with them is about $180. That's because they convert great for me and the average order size is high. So I'm all for people leaving those merchants alone, I'll take them

Are you serious? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've seen posted in a long time. If you just made a penny on every unique you would make about $150,000 a month.

Let's say that you have a Pet Site!

Pays a generous 5% of gross sales.

You sell an astounding $50,000 / mo.

    That's $2500

And what if that merchant payed 10% and you made $20,000 a month and that would be $2000.

Now which would you rather have, $2500 or $2000? That's why you can't go on commission percentage alone, many more factors come into play. Reread the examples already given.

I started my career in the internet business w / doityourself.com.

1.3 million uniques a day ( including forums ) and you would be surprised at the CTRs.

    .0000000003

    Crud like that!

Show me a site you have that is making $30,000 / month at the 5% levels and I will shut up and post apologies all over this fine board.

Well that's on you. You should have been rolling in the money and nowadays there are many more options to making money. What is this : .0000000003

    I've never seen that before.

    I've never seen that before.

I'd like to hear some more of those OPTIONS!

I sit at my house, with TWO websites that are content driven and make well over that mark!

And I know that I can QUADRUPLE that if I worked at it.

Hence, my wanting to learn from y'all and find different avenues of revenue!

Why quit here, when I can get to THERE with some effort.

    As to your math question:

Let's say somebody gets 2000 clicks a day to a merchant and they're converting at 10%

That would be 200 sales a day and let's say average order size was $100. That's $20,000 in sales multiplied by 5% commission rate = $1000 a day.

    30 days = $30,000

Now compare that example I just gave to what you posted:

"I don't think you can make 10k / month w/ most programs unless you are generating 500,000 uniques a day!"

It's hard for me to even comprehend just how out there that is.

    OK. Ya got me.

If you send 2000 clicks a day with a 10% CONVERSION RATE - you rawk!

I don't get 2k click thrus a day on my Adsense.

If you are getting 2000 click thrus to an aff paying 5% , why the hell aren't you finding something similar that pays 10% or $7.00 a lead.

You're smoking some heavy stuff my friend.

    lol - 2000 and 10%

    Yeah, Right!

I'm not the one smoking My math and examples make sense.

"why the hell aren't you finding something similar that pays 10% or $7.00 a lead."

Who says I'm not? I work with hundreds of merchants paying anything from 1% to up over 30%. You can make good money with all of them. And you're still stuck on the commisson rate even after I gave you examples.

90 plus % of the folks on this site don't see 2000 uniques a day!

I've never had any aff convert to 10%~

    You must be the MAN!

Those anti Bush - kanye products must ROOL~

Better hope the Pubs win the next election or kanye and his Pubs hate black folks in LA chant will die a swift death.

Glad to hear your math version of a fairy tale.

Ain't gonna happen to 99% of the sites our there.

A 10% CTR on Adsense is a reality, but they won't pay squat!

My site is about to become a featured site ( they tell me ) on Adsense.

Read what I said in the original post again and help yourself out.

I can help you with some affs that pay well.

$35 -$65 range and pay on the 3rd of the month!

I'm beginning to think you have some kind of mental block. And on a side note, you're the affiliate, the merchant is the merchant. You got it wrong in your title and following posts. I can edit the title for you if you want.

Are you trying to sell us some of the merchants you're using on your site? or are you one of them?
You have a white site from Service Magic, a company owned by IAC.
IAC, ask.com and many companies owned by them are spreading spyware and adware like there's no tomorrow. IAC is one the companies behind free smilies, free screensavers and the like. Crappy people behind crappy sites.

ServiceMagic is the largest home contractor site in the world and pays me a premium yo won't find on an aff program.

Well over $25,000 a month in the Summer time.

They have some issues, but the check comes on time and I've been with them since day 1 after they bought another aff of mine!

You telling me I have a crappy site?

Of course you should see people happy about their FIRST sale! I'm still working on getting my first sale, and I would be higher than a kite if my first sale brought in 5 cents, because it would be the FIRST one.

    Just my opinion though.

Was it more than a few bucks?
