I'm happy with my WW membership. ::shrug:: I made one contact last year who gave me an idea that's more than paid for my membership.

Hmmm... 0.1 cents for a post by Dynamoo.. $50 for a post by Leader. That'd work!

Pay money to read a board? Hah! The people who read and post to a board are the content. Why would someone pay money to provide content so that someone else can make money on it?

It's really easy to start another board. I'm sure someone on WWWorld who doesn't feel like shelling out the sub. fee will do so eventually.

But look at the standard of the board.
Fantastic in my opinion. WMW would be the only board I would ever consider paying for.

You're right that the participants contribute the content, but providing the container for that content is neither simple nor cheap. What's your theory as to how the owner is making money over there? He's certainly not filling the place with ads ...

The biggest value I get from participating over there is what I learn in some of the techie discussions, especially CSS topics.

The way I understand it, the subscription fee gets you into the paid supporters private forum where you rub shoulders with the top pros, and the best SE optimizers in the world hang out at WMW. The rest of the public forum remains as it is. Hopefully I'm not misuderstanding the whole thing.

So far, I don't see where Brett has buckled under to anyone, search engines or advertisers alike. I think helping to keep the forum alive and independent is worth the fee for those who have the means to pay it, and I'm showing my support with a subscription.

Whiznot - You're right on every count! Sent mine in a couple of weeks ago. Also, the conferences are worth their weight in gold.

Heh.. Tabke sure is a stubborn one. Anyway, I thought at this point its still free, but donations are appreciated? And only the members only forum is restricted...

Anyway, its probably worth it overall, though, their over moderation really annoys.. but maybe thats what makes it work..who knows.

I wonder if they went for pay only if they'd charge GG? heh.
