Question What's so special about 2%?
I received an e-mail about a "special private offer" and thought "oh yay! I can't wait to read the e-mail."

    The deal is for
    2% sale on selected goods
    what's so special about that?

I prefer not to name the affiliate merchant program at this time.

I'm just wondering why any AM would think an affiliate would jump at 2%?

Aren't "Private Offers" Supposed to be BETTER then the Regular Commission?
The other day I got a merchant email with their new Fall Apparel banners.. Since they're not an "affiliate friendly" merchant, I never update them and simply deleted the email.

FYI: Their normal commision is 6% on everything

Today I got a "Private Offer" email. I'd get 8% on all their fall apparal

    but...

only 2% on "selected items". I click to see what the hec these 2% items are... and they're....

    are you sitting down?

EVERYTHING ELSE ON THEIR SITE - LOLOLOL

Is there a sign on my head that says "FOOL"???????????

Do you wanna be on top???

    (LOL - I'll slap myself)

The discalimer on the offer says Private special offers are only made available to selected affiliates. This represents a special relationship that our member merchants wish to develop with certain affiliate - not everyone gets the private offer... yada yada yada

Uh... I'm insulted that I'm on their FOOLS list!!

Trust... which merchant manually removes a commission if someone happens to have their catalog, and enters the catalog coupon code - even though they came from your site?

    Stall while Trust searches abw

But is it a product line that converts sales out the wazzoo?

There is at least one 3%-paying vendor out there that converts so well that you'd have to be able to pull rabbits out of hats to do any better with any 20%-paying vendor.

Got the same email too. Also note the difference in cookie length. So it also comes down to whether you want the higher commish or the longer return days.

Could someone please post the full email? All these bits and pieces, without all of the facts, is useless. I've never heard of cookie duration being determined based on certain products.

[Deleted the contents of the special offer email from this post after re-reading this line: "Since not all members of LinkShare can see or participate in this offer, the online merchant has selected you with the understanding that you will not disclose to other affiliates or merchants the proposed terms of the agreement."

Last thing I want is to find myself sitting on a blacklist of a merchant w/ super special offers like this one. <cough>]

I've received these "special offers" from Linkshare merchants in the past with the same stipulation. Funny thing is that several of the "special offers" I've received have become the merchants standard terms a couple of weeks later. Wow, that's special.
