    Wordpress vs. Blogger vs. Others?
Does anyone have preferences on Wordpress vs. Bloggers vs. something else? Wordpress seems like it is quite good - and from a few other posts (that didn't compare it to Blogger), seemed like it had some good site design tools.

Any thoughts on preferences for a blogging platform would be much appreciated. Thanks!

There are several threads on this topic, you might want to do a search, and generally self hosted Wordpress comes out ahead as the most flexible solution. If you don't have or want your own hosting and don't want complete control then blogger is a second choice.

I maintain blogs via Blogger on my own hosting. I've been a happy Blogger user since 2001. As long as you have your blog on your own hosting, you will have control over it.
Blogger can do a lot of the "neato" things originally attributed to Wordpress such as: syndicate content and categorize topics with tags and date stamping.
I went into Blogger capabilities/possibilities here:

My vote is with Loxly and WordPress. Definitely the most flexible and best solution.

Thanks to all for the quick replies. Very much appreciated. Sorry I didn't catch other relevant threads before posting - I searched but apparently not hard enough! Thanks again.

Isn't it against Wordpress TOS to monetize your blog so if you want ads in it etc it might get deleted

There were posts raising a concern that Linkshare links would scramble in WordPress. So many people seem to love WordPress that there must be a solution for that problem.

    Whatever happened with this discussion?

I don't have a problem with affiliate ads in my Blogger blogs as long as I host the blogs on my own domain[s].

Since we use our own hosting I never had the WordPress TOS apply to any site that uses it.

Now if you have WP host it, here is their simple TOS:

    http://wordpress.com/tos/

Reading it I would not host my blog with WP (or blogger even).

Only on their hosted site. When you host it yourself, you do what you want. If it was against the TOS *lots* of major bloggers would be violating that, especially the ones selling custom versions with custom ad templates.

I think that's if you host it with them.

If you host it on your own server I think you can do whatever you want with it.

I don't design our sites but I know that my main designer is starting to use Wordpress and apparently is loving it.

We use Wordpress and I like that. I have used blogger and it was very limited, at least thats how I felt. Wordpress gives you tons of options and google seems to really likr archives and categories!

I've used Wordpress and Blogger and I prefer Wordpress. The plugins and flexibility give it an advantage over Blogger.

Wordpress is the only best choice out there. Easy to Customize, a hell lot of free plugins and themes are available for free.
Talking about Blogger, its a heaven for spammers.

If you go to wordpress.org and click on either the hosting or download tabs... there are instructions and you can also download it and deploy it on your own server.

From this link there is a link to a few hosting companies (see the hosting tab) that offer a "one click" installation so you can avoid all of the instructions talked about in the above link. I don't have much experience with hosting or web servers, but signed up for a new domain last night with Blue Host and it only took me 20-30 minutes to figure out how to set it up.

Hope that helps. I'm totally new to blogging and as I said know nothing web servers... if I can do it in 20 mins, I'm sure most people would take only 5 :-)

It's easy as dirt, like Janus said. Read the quickie-install directions for installing on your own site; no need to get detailed reading the docs, since IT does all the real work.

The time-consuming part is deciding which free theme (template) you want to use. There are 1000s out there! (You *can* use the default, but that one's pretty ugly IMO...)

Fortunately, most of those are easy to install. It's trying to pick one that's hard!
