Suggestions on new site development and getting traffic to come

Ok, so I am working on a site and just would like some advice on the best things to do from the start to help generate natural traffic.
Any thougts would be very helpful.

"natural traffic" is going to take awhile.
Be sure to submit your site/site map to the big three search engines asap.
Spend some time submitting it manually to as many directories as you can.
Sign up for social networking sites like Stumpleupon and add your site.
Try free classifieds ads at Lycos & Craigslist.
Request site reviews in several forums that you will be participating in.
Most importantly, decide on the keyword or key word phase that you think visitors will use in search engines to find your site. For example, "cheap widgets". Then make sure your title & metas have "cheap widgets" in them. And, load (not overload) your website content with variations of "cheap widgets" all over the place
