Red face I ran over our cat!!!!!! But he's fairly ok
First the good news... he's alive....

So our cat (Coffee) is a bit daft, when ever anyone walks near him, he throws himself on his back and demands to have his tummy tickled... he does the same thing when we're trying to park the car, he'll just plonk down and turn over in the middle of the road and say "Oi! You! Tickle my tummy!"

Usually he gets moved out of the way...or moves by himself... the other day I reversed onto the drive and there was an almighty screech. My first thought was "Oh no I've run over the cat!". My second being "Oh no I HAVE run over the cat!"

I jumped out of the car. Just in time to see Coffee rushing into the back yard at high speed... phew.... if he can run that fast I thinking he must be fine.

Anyway a few days later I find he's dragging his tail, an xray shows it is well and truly broken and that another 2 inches to the left and he'd not have just a broken tail.... anyway looks like he's going to be tailless (yes amputation time) tomorrow but otherwise should be fine!

    Cheers

If your wife loves that cat and is crazy about it - you better hope that she doesn't cut your tail off.

sorry to hear that Chris..poor kitty.

Something that should work well are back up reversal sensors.

I know a lot of Thai and South East Asia cars started to have it as STD equipment in 2001-02. Whenever you back up, the passengers in the car will hear a bleeping sound. If something is behind it, it will bleep very fast. Same concept as a sonar.
A reverse cam will work well too especially if you have kids....

    Hope all is well.

Got them, but I'm backing up to a wall...and lying flat on the floor he didn't register as an obstruction

    Poor cat...

I guess, it is the best worst thing that could happen in this instance (upon seeing just the thread title I thought things are much worse) though.

Oh well, if he starts having a complex from being tail-less, you can always direct him to this support group:

He doesn't seem to be in any plain, he runs, jumps and bounces around like normal, but the tail dragging was certainly getting on his nerves, plus a large increase in the chance of infection from having a tail that drags too apparently.

Thanks I'll refer him to that if he has any issues

Me too, usually the howl when Coffee is near their enclosure...this time however they kept very quiet..... must be a bit of bad blood there

    Cheers

Glad it was just his tail!

Be careful he doesn't get in the way again though...from what I've seen of cats, they're not as bright as some people would have it

Poor kitty. Can't they 'repair' his tail? I would have thought they'd have put a cast on it or something. Seems a bit drastic to cut his tail off!

I did some research and from what I read it's not easy to fix, needs to be a minor break to fix and the break Coffee has is pretty big.

they're not as bright as some people would have it
I think Coffee is already in the lower IQ range for a cat.. either that or he's in a rush to use up his nine lives... one of his other party tricks is to stroll into the dogs compound to say hi and then dash out at high speed....

    Cheers

Sounds like Coffee is a handful! Glad he's OK. With or without a tail, I'm pretty sure he won't be lounging in the driveway when he sees the car moving. Check for him just the same, though.

Yes, some cats are less intelligent than others, but if you challenge him, he WILL get better!

    Ouch!

Glad your cat is okay, though I am sorry she has a nub for a tail. Cat's use every bit of their nine lives up, don't they?
