    What's YOUR phobia?
I have two phobias. First, I'm afraid to fly. I used to enjoy flying but numerous flights with my white-knuckled ex-husband ruined it for me. (You try sitting next to someone who's subvocalizing the Hail Mary and see how you fare.)

My other phobia is bridges. This one comes and goes. Some bridges are very upsetting to me and others are no big deal. In fact there are a few bridges for which I have great affection like the "twin bridges" on the Adirondack Northway. Then there are others that have literally given me nightmares like the steel decked Sikorsky Bridge in Stratford, CT and the overpass/interchanges on I-93 just north of Boston.

So, what makes YOU break out in a cold sweat?

Um...germs... some germs are ok, but others... eek! It is hard to explain how I determine which are the 'safe' germs, but I do have a system, lol!

Heights. I think I'm like that naturally then add on a couple of airplane incidents, door flying open during one flight, another coming in during one of Orlando's worst hail storms. Made a lot of cars look like the surface of the moon, especially on the campus of UCF, lots of damage there.

Then an amusement park incident, log ride gone wrong.

Not to the point where I won't get on an airplane if I have to, like overseas. But if it's drivable, then I drive.

    Hah!

Forget about garlic, mirrors, wooden stakes and silver bullets.

The Vampire Skunk is terrified of fish.

Mother skunk forced him to eat pilchards when he was a very small cub.

That pungent oil made him retch.

To this day the sight of a fish with gaping mouth and those glassy eyes...

    Brrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

I am Claustrophobic. It is not so much about small places but more when I am somewhere where I feel like I can't move. Small places with lots of people, or even sometimes I will wake up because the sheets have gotten twisted and I can't move my legs.

I am hard of hearing and they used to put me in those little small sound proof booths to test my hearing a lot. Being locked in there and having so much pressure to try to perform well on the test made it very scary. I think that is where it started.

I don't like to fly. Well actually I don't like to take off or land. Flying is OK. But not so bad that I call it a phobia.

Ladders. I will avoid climbing even a little one if at all possible! But I'm not scared to walk under 'em.

But I'm not scared of heights in general. As long as the surface under me is stable, it's cool. Ladders always wobble.

Ooo forgot about claustro - I, too, panic if I can't move. I will not get on a crowded elevator and ask others to wait for the next one if it's already packed and I'm in there.

I had to have an MRI a few years ago. The nurse putting me in the tube asked if I was claustrophobic. I told him I had nightmares about being trapped in small places. He gave me way too much whatever drug they give you to 'relax" you. I could have cared less that I was trapped in a tube. LOL

    2 things.

    1. I'm definitely clausto. I hate being stuck in small places with no quick exit in plain view.

    2. Palmetto bugs. I friggin' HATE them! I had one fly right into my hair when I was 4 years old in Cuba where I swear they must be mutants. They are gigantic! To this day, if I see one, I book faster than you can blink an eye.

ugh, that palmetto bug recount just freaked me out and grossed me out. bleh.
