What a shame. He was one of the world's great musical talents.

It seems that despite all of the advances made in recent years, there is still little that can be done for pancreatic cancer.

    Sad news...

His voice will still live on...

    Rest in peace, Luciano.

What a voice! Never fails to choke me up when I hear him singing Puccini.

As for pancreatic cancer, I've had two relatives die from it. One was a cousin who died 30 years ago. When he was diagnosed he was told there was nothing that could be done and he died within six months. One of my aunts died recently from pancreatic cancer. She'd lived with it for over two years. There's quite a lot that can be done now (surgery, chemo) but the life expectancy is still relatively short. Unfortunately my aunt couldn't tolerate the chemo. So pancreatic cancer isn't as dire a diagnosis as it once was although it's still one of the most deadly forms of cancer.

Sadly, the world has lost a great tenor voice and an outstanding performer. His performances will live on, however, and he will always be remembered.

I've known several people who died of pancreatic cancer, too. It certainly seems to be the most lethal form of cancer. Many other kinds (skin, breast, lung) seem to have very high cure rates, but I haven't known anyone who survived more than about six months with pancreatic cancer. Looking in Wikipedia, pancreatic cancer has a 99% mortality rate and median survival is 3-6 months. Apparently the main problem is that there are no early symptoms.

I heard this news last night and was very sad to hear it. He was such a great tenor.

Have anyone seen this performance? Pavarotti and James Brown sharing the stage...

I've lost two very special people in my life to Pancreatic cancer, too. It is fast and furious.

Both complained of stomach pains before being diagnosed so that's pretty much the only symptom, although it's obvious. I've also heard there's no cure or easy fix for it.
    Peace,

I really liked The Three Tenors....

    Lots of youtubes here:
    http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...e+Three+Tenors

If you are not a fan of this type of singing, just try listening to one of the shorter clips with your eyes closed, just relaxing.... It is usually so soothing, even if it is not in English, you can enjoy it without knowing what they are singing about, lol!

It is terrible to loose such a person. I am pretty sure he will live in all of our hearts and ears, for many, many years.

    May he rest in peace.
