Linkshare Customer Support Doesn't Know What a Forced Click Is
I sent the following email to Linkshare Customer Support:

"www.hotelquest.com is a redirect through a forced click to www.orbitz.com through a Linkshare affiliate link."

I received the following response from E Gutierrez, Linkshare Affiliate Support:

    "Thank you for your email.

Can you give us more details regarding this concern of yours?

    Thank you for contacting LinkShare!"

Apparently E Gutierrez doesn't know what a forced click is, but I replied:

"If you go to www.hotelquest.com that automatically redirects to www.orbitz.com and sets a Linkshare cookie without clicking on an Orbitz affiliate link. That is a forced click and a violation of Linkshare's terms and conditions."

Apparently Linkshare's front line customer support doesn't know what a forced click is. Ranae??

www.ticketsavings.com redirects to Hotwire through the same Linkshare affiliate ID.

It is not redirected. It is framing the merchant. I had an affiliate that did that and we terminated that person. One thing bad about framing a merchant is that the merchant does not recognize is... Merchant's site can be frame with a porn banner on the top. Not too tasty.

Good catch on ticketsavings.com. hotelquest.com is a redirect though.

Apparently Ranae forwarded this on as I received an email this afternoon from the Linkshare Account Manager on the Hotwire account.
My name is [name removed]. I am the Hotwire account manager at LinkShare. I just wanted to follow up with you regarding your posting on A Best Web. I looked into the affiliate using the URL www.ticketsavings.com.

They are also known as EconomyReservations.com, which you probably know. They removed themselves from the Hotwire program in 2004 so they arenít doing anything with them through LinkShare right now.

Thanks for keeping an eye on things. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thank you,
    I replied:
Thank you for looking into it. If they removed themselves from the program, Linkshare should not allow a redirect through a Linkshare link. Linkshare should block the redirect immediately. This affiliate has a history of this behavior as noted on the post I made. Why is Linkshare allowing www.hotelquest.com to redirect to Orbitz through a Linkshare affiliate link?

I think it is inappropriate for this to be addressed on a merchant by merchant basis. This is affiliate behavior and a violation of Linkshare's Terms & Conditions. Why isn't Linkshare taking action against this Affiliate ID?
So as you see, Linkshare is addressing this on a specific merchant basis when they should be addressing it for the affiliate's entire Linkshare account.

And on further thought, if the affiliate removed themselves from Hotwire's program, as she said, then why is a Linkshare affiliate ID loading and setting a cookie if you go to www.ticketsavings.com?

As to hotelquest.com, the owner/affiliate purchased that domain in 11/06 from its previous owner for $3,130. http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/dom...es11_28_06.htm

So this guy knows exactly what he's doing. No telling how many other violations he's committing. This issue is definitely not resolved. Linkshare is now knowingly allowing this guy to violate Linkshare's T&Cs.

As of this morning, hotelquest.com goes to a page with Overture ads and ticketsavings.com resolves to Page Cannot Be Displayed. Glad this has been resolved.

Well, I just checked again and ticketsavings.com is still framing Hotwire. Apparently the Page Cannot Be Displayed was just temporary.
