Procreation Day in Russia - Gettin busy
"Central Russian region of Ulyanovsk declares Sept. 12 a 'Day of Conception'"

Ulyanovsk Gov. Sergei Morozov has decreed Sept. 12 a Day of Conception and is giving couples time off from work to procreate. Couples who give birth nine months later on Russia's national day -- June 12 -- will receive money, cars, refrigerators and other prizes.

I wish we had a desinated procreation day in the US.

They only get to do it one day a year.

    That sucks.

Every day is procreation day in the US.

    You're lucky to live here.

Why do you think Geno moved and left Russian?

A new car won't help you if you're not a Chick Magnet.

If you are a Chick Magnet you don't even need a car.

The Chicks will let you use their car.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha................ Too funny, and too Central-Russia-minded!! The President said we need more Russians, and started paying for new babies starting from the second one [see a Washington Post article on this here -- BTW, the exchange rate has changed since the time this article was written, and it works out to be more like $10k per child now!!) This governor is throwing in extra prizes now. C'mon!! 12 Sept is a Wednesday this year! Is he gonna give all capable ones a day off too??

PS: No, I haven't moved yet, BB. I'm still in St. Petersburg...

If I lived in Ulyanovsk (The city's original name, by the way, is Simbirsk! They renamed it according to the last name of Lenin -- Ulyanov, because Lenin was born there), I'd probably be doing something else now. St. Petersburg is some 1800 km (1090+ miles) away from the place where they will be giving away TV sets and refrigerators to those that conceive today.

I thought this was one of the funniest things I had heard. But then I got to thinking about the declining populations in Russia and Europe and it really has serious international implications in many ways.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die
to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there
isn't and die to find out there is.

From what I heard on the news they did this last year and 78 babies qualified. I did also hear that government offices would be closed, so they are actually giving some people the day off.

All I could think about was if they are grouping births so close together, the years that they do this are going to cause a log jam in the school system when those kids need extra classes and extra teachers.

Maybe they should just have an Adoption Day, pick up 20 or 30 thousand of the Chinese babies that are awaiting adoption.
Following everyone else is a GREAT way to become average.
