    MySpace Affiliate Program
Just got back from CJU and sat in on the MySpace session.

Social Networking and the MySpace Phenomenon

Mark Papia, Vice President of Performance Marketing, Fox Interactive Media (MySpace.com )
Although I enjoyed the presentation it came across as an advertisement for MySpace. Last year at CJU 2006 we all were encourage to get on the social networking bandwagon and MySpace was strongly recommended. The discussion last year was how does this apply to affiliate marketing?

Vinny Lingham , well known and out spoke super affiliate and CJP commented that they had tried to use MySpace and had miserable ROI. Mark had no direct response to his comment.

MySpace was also heavily discussed at the AffiliateSummit where Mark was on a panel discussion with Google.

Here is my question and challenge to MySpace (Mark?) Are you interested in creating an ad center akin to AdWords that lets merchants and affiliate couple keyword search with banner ads? This would legitimize the opportunity for both to work together in an above board fashion.

If not then please stop advertising to the affiliate channel!

The response to this post has been a bit under-whelming and I figured out why. MySpace is not of interest to affiliates because they can not figure out how to use traditional affiliate marketing to make money.

So why is MySpace showing up to all the conferences? Because they ARE the affiliate and they are looking for merchant hook-ups!

    Yep!!!

It's like a bait and switch -- create a buzz of affiliate oppty with masses of affs, but why wouldn't the merchant deal directly with myspace??? Well, that's exactly their proposition

You can deal with them directly in a traditional CPM campaign but the barrier to entry is too high for affiliates. But who are the majority of the attendees at an affiliate marketing conference?
