You'd think that somebody with the kind of resources that Microsoft has at their disposal would have the sense to just start from scratch with the goal of making the best one.

Amd Yahoo is about to crowd the market a bit more with their MASH.

Microsoft Pays $240 Million for Stake in Facebook (Update1)

"Microsoft Corp. will buy a 1.6 percent stake in social-networking Web site Facebook Inc. and agreed to sell ads for the Internet company overseas, beating out a bid from Google Inc. "

1.6% and overseas but at least they beat out a bid from Google. I guess baby steps

Is it so worthless? I think that as a closed platform, they are in danger of someone coming along with a better offering that is an open platform that might cool them down a bit. Also, there is the risk that it's all just a big fad.

But, consider all the information people are putting in about themselves. Consider know anyone that puts in a hotmail, or live email address, now Microsoft has all this information about someones interests that they can put targeted advertising offering in front of (even off of Facebook).

Information always has value, and Facebook is acquiring a LOT of information about people.
