    Just Started Swimming. Ouch!
So, I thought I would try swimming 3 times a week to counter the flab generated by computer living!

I mean, how hard could it be!?

I have now been twice and did 20 lengths the first time and 25 the second and it feels like my shoulders and chest are about to cave-in.

Not good, but I suppose its no pain, no gain...

Good for the lungs too. Its great low impact exercise.

Just dont overdue it and you should try to swim with someone else, just in case.

Swimming is a butt kicker. Amazing full body workout though that builds long lean muscle and is low impact.

I haven't been swimming much since swim team as a kid, but I want to get back into it. The breathing is the hardest thing to get dialed for me. Maybe one of these days I'll actually train enough to do a triathlon.

Actually, the hardest thing to do is to walk from the changing area to the swimming pool! Should be easier as the 'wobbly bits' start disappearing

I've wanted to get into swimming too! I'm a terrible swimmer now though, that breathing thing...it's like walking and chewing gum. I'm not sure I can do it.

    Learn it step by step...
It's not that difficult and also verry amusing once you can do it!

I know the Y has some fantastic lessons for kids. They might have lessons for adults, too.

Gabriel (my 4-year old) and five of his friends had swim lessons back in June, and now he swims like a fish. We have some dive toys (that sink down to the bottom) and we can throw them in deep end and he'll swim down (8 1/2 feet!) and get them.

Actually I was really surprised at what a poor swimmer I am. I have always thought I was pretty decent, but when it comes down to it, I realised my technique was rubbish.

This conclusion was swiftly reached upon swallowing the 15th mouthful of poolwater in the first 10 minutes...

Good inspiration! I am thinking of signing up for a triathlon class at the U of U starting in January. I definitely need the most help in the swimming arena!

Just think of the results you'll get from swimming 3 times a week. Over time, you'll find the pain more than worth it.

Thanks! Its not so much the pain as it is the amount of water I still swallow. My swimming lessons as a kid are not doing me justice

Maybe you should make a schedule first, check on google and wiki answers. You know it's harmful if over exercised and it also very dangerous when you got tired in pool.

Swimming is great and I have included it in my workout regimen as well. One thing you may also want to think of getting is ear plugs. You go swimming enough times and you may get swimmer's ear. I was fine for the first couple of months but then it became an issue so I now I wear ear plugs.

Also helps drain out the jibber-jabber from the people who sit at the entrance of the pool and talk all day long.
