The Right Way to Schedule Downtime
CJ: You can learn a lot on how to schedule downtime from NCS:

To help ensure the quality and reliability of the NCSReporting dot com system, NCS has established an NCSReporting dot com service window for maintenance of the system from 5:00 am - 7:00 am CST on Tuesday's. Access to NCSReporting dot com may be unavailable during this window of time.

The Tuesday morning window was chosen because it has been a historically low-demand period for the NCSReporting system; however, we will be particularly sensitive to the higher demand as our network grows.

More information about NCSReporting dot com is available at www dot NCSReporting dot com. If you have questions about this maintenance window now or at any point in the future, you may contact the Affiliate Service Rep via email or xxxxxxxxx from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
    Also, honesty about tracking:

Note: To ensure that network traffic is not interrupted we utilize a maintenance database server to ensure that clicks will be tracked appropriately and accurately. However they may arise a time when all traffic will be interrupted, in case such as this, we will attempt to notify you well in advance so that you can take appropriate action.

I thought the weekend is the best time to do this. Traffic is usually slow on Sat and Sunday. Personally, I would do it on Sat, Sun and Monday - 4am to 6am EST would be ideal (taking into consideration all time zones in US). Weekend traffic is usually s-l-o-w

Either way, they have some good info there..

Many affiliates work on their sites on the weekends (and evenings). I think early Tuesday morning is pretty ideal. That also gives a good portion of their work week to take care of any problems that might arise (as opposed to those who release changes on Friday afternoon/evening).
