A damn turkey... ***Free Turkey offer***
We get home from the dentist today and on the front door was an advertisement hanging in a plastic bag. I opened it up and turns out it was from a realtor in the area (CB). There was a page with a few of their listings, a Thanksgiving recipe card, and a coloring page of a turkey. It says "Coloring Contest" at the top. I show it quickly to my daughter and tell her "Hey, someone put this on the front door for a coloring contest." She says, "What prize do I get if I do really good?" Then I looked under the picture of the turkey and saw what the prize was "Win one of five thanksgiving turkeys." I mean, really---come on---Am I really supposed to make her color this happy looking turkey drawing to possibly get a pale, lifeless Thanksgiving treat in return? WTH?

BTW-we do eat turkey every Thanksgiving, I just thought it was a helluva prize that every KID would want.

    hahaha...

Well "a chicken in every pot" was once a campaign slogan

Talk about untargeted advertising, a turkey as a prize for a kid from a real estate agency - I agree, how freakin dumb!

I despise those door-hanger advertisements, because they are a very obvious signal for burglars and others that you're away from home, if they remain on your door for more than a day or so. Some cities have laws against them (either for that reason, or because they tend to fall off and become litter).

Mark, it's even worse when advertisers create a "newspaper," roll it in plastic, and throw it on one's driveway -- that's a real give-a-way as to whether the family is home or away.

As for the contest, at least the child could be happy about providing the main source of a Thanksgiving meal for the family.
Next time maybe the realtor can give out a few toys

The child will feel great, "I won a turkey for Mommy and Daddy [and insert any other relatives here]"
    What's wrong with that?

I'd heap praise upon my child if the child won something like that.

If the family is vegetarian they can donate the winning turkey to a local food bank and feel good about giving something to a charity.

If anyone wants it, here you go... Sorry, no scanner. According to the flyer, "EVERYONE participating will receive a special prize!" Please let someone overseas win this... I could just see the looks on the customs officials faces when they get a turkey going to Bolivia. LOL.

Also, I just noticed that you might have to overnight your creation, as they didn't allow much time for Mom or Dad to get it to them...

If you do a little searching, you might be able to email it to her instead.

Good luck and let me see some of what you were able to do.

I don't see any limitations on the contest, location-wise, so come on, Haiko, show us your talent and enter the contest! That might get the Agent wondering a bit, lol.

Or we can use our talents to digitally "color" it. Haiko, your "coloring" of a part shows your approval for this. Give it your best shot. And please don't pick the legs---no fair. Then post it here to show it and pass it on to whatever member you want. A creation by all of us at ABW...what could be better?

    Cute Sfcom!

How about this ... A free turkey* from me to anyone** who submits their ABW colorized version of the turkey?

    Legal Crap:
    ----------
    * Actually $50 paid via paypal not a real turkey (if you don't have paypal don't submit)
** Limit of the first five (5) people who post their version in this thread.

Well, surely you know that I am somewhat of a newbie here (though I plan on staying a long time.) Anyway, I can't PM you anything yet...but I have read many posts when others have asked for their PM rights and they are made to look like (rightfully so in all I have seen...and they leave the board with only 5 posts or so...ha-ha!) , so I will just wait till I get those rights. FYI, I did post in Geno's ABW "Cutest Moments" thread though with pics of me, my wife, and my 2 kids if that helps your decision on the PM rights. Thanks again for the prize and I will look forward to seeing the other entries.

By the way, here's a much better example of creative advertising on doors:

Saw that the other day. Sometimes those ad guys really are clever.

Personally, I can see this type being used in an evil way. Get some unsuspecting elderly person, put this on their door, hit the bell, then rob them. Stupid on their parts. It creates quite a liability issue.
