    How long does it take?
Hello, how long does it generally take from when you create a site with decent keywords and content to when you will start seeing some natural traffic?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Depending on who is linking to it. It could be as soon as a week or 2

Once you start the marketing process to get your site out there and noticed, it shouldn't take too long. But it depends on many factors, if the keywords you are using are very common, it might take awhile.

I saw somebody do a chart recently, can't remember where. But Google usually longer that Yahoo or MSN. I don't think you'll see a brand new site getting traffic from Google in a week or two (maybe in extreme cases). And then you have getting indexed vs. getting ranked well enough to actually get traffic.

Depends on the efforts you do...
And how you promote your website!

It depends a lot on how much competition there is for the same keywords. If you submit sitemaps then you'll show up in days instead of weeks.

That's what I was thinking too. If your site is unique & a new concept, and people start searching for it, you could get traffic fast. But if you're trying something already with a lot of competition, it could be a long difficult road.

If you plan for 4 to 6 months, with hard work you won't be disappointed. If it happens sooner, pleasant surprise...

For my latest site, it is now 9 days and counting.

I think the 4 to 6 month period for significant organic search traffic is reasonable.

As a side comment - I receive about 50:1 more indexing visits from the Googlebot than other bots but I receive about three times as much search traffic from Yahoo as I do from Google (and zip from MSN/Ask/???)????

I've found that Google is always the first to index my sites and it also sends me the most traffic.
    YMMV

I think it depends on content and niche.

I can't remember exactly how long, but I have a blog where I put a lot up content up re: a very niche topic and if I remember correctly I was up within a week.
