    First snow of the year
    Hi everyone,

We had our first snowfall today (very, very light), this morning!!!

I love the first snowfall of the year, the first few times are so pretty.

Have any of you had your first snow yet?

kind of . . . here in the Finger Lakes section in the middle of New York State, the higher elevations had a dusting, and here in a deep valley where I live we saw little tiny sleet-shaped pieces falling during the morning, yesterday.

OK, I've experienced Winter. No more needed.

I skied "Gunsight" in Alta on Oct 21st...a 1500' vertical shot on the backside of Alta Ski Area. There was a 25 inch base, and the night before it snowed 20 inches. It felt like February in the gut of Gunsight that day...minus the tracks from other skiers

We're in NY in the foothills of the Taconic Mountains and it snowed in the mountains night before last although not here in the "lowlands." The ski resorts started making snow last night so I guess they're pretty confident that winter has arrived.

Brrrrr! I like snow but I don't like the cold and I really, really don't like the short hours of daylight that come with Winter at this latitude.

No snow in Maryland, yet. I did have to scrape the ice off of the windshield before driving to work this morning, though.

We were pretty lucky last year, but I am hoping for some nice snow this winter.

Yep although I will say, that was in Alta, Utah...9000' above sea level. The Salt Lake valley only got a few inches and it was gone in a day or two.

    Canadian Eh
I must disagree. As an American resident who is a Canadian from Winterpeg (Winnipeg), I never look forward to the first snowfall which we are still waiting for.

Some of my fellow Minnesotans tell me they love the change of seasons...ha ha ha ha.

I think they're in denial. I would prefer to have 70-75 degree weahter 24/7.

That being said, I think wonderful people live in colder climates like ours.

Snowed for the second time in St. Petersburg, Russia today. Everything outside my window looks like a good old Scandinavian fairytale.

    I snow

Took the family to the local ski swap on Sat. and bought boots, skis and poles. As we walked out one of the volunteers said to my wife, "great pair of skis, won a lot of metals off of those"! Now she is praying for snow and worried her skis will be too fast (its her second year).

I live on the east side of the Wasatch and work on the other side. I can't wait for snow!!!!

I have to make my snow predictions for the winning city soon on one of my websites Noth and so far I'm leaning toward Rochester as this seasons winner of the Golden Snowball contest. Whatcha think? Probably a trophy you don't want huh Rochester placed second last seaon BTW beating out Buffalo who got a 2 foot jump on us in October.

Crazy weather, for sure. Yesterday morning I grabbed my camera, hopped in the car and took a day-trip to the mountains of northern West Virgina - where there should have been a couple dustings of snow by this time of year.

Result? 65 degrees and sunny. Go figure. Had the top down on my SLK all afternoon.

We had flurries this week. For about two minutes. Does that count?

Today we are enjoying sleet and freezing rain which means I will not be going out to run errands and do some holiday shopping.

We got our first REAL snowfall overnight - woke up to at least 3-4 centimeters (that's about 1-2 inches ) still on the ground.

Guess it's time to get out the winter boots....
