    Guys,

I have found a website that's copied my existing site (for SERankings) and I'm really pissed. Where do I complain ?

I'm not aware if he's a member here, but I do not think so. Also I think all his info in the whois shows that he himself is the hosting company. If any of you can help me analyze this better and get to someone who can really shut him down please email//pm//reply me....

    Thanks !

    Cheers, RR.

First of all you'll need some sort of evidence of prior art.. the Wayback Machine is a great help with this. Also, look for any telltale signs such as mailto:, contact or other addresses.

Most hosts will react quickly to copyright violations if you can back them up, so determine who their host is using SamSpade or maybe Demon's Network Tools.

Alternatively, or in addition to the above, confront the copier directly, firmly but politely and tell them that you believe the site to be a copy, you have evidence and would sooner not take it further if it can be resolved without legal action.

There is a email add. on the new site. Wayback not needed as it's a new site opened in the last 30 days copying mine...

Yes, but I fear the hosting belogs to this guy. I've written an email asking the relationship between the 2...

Really ? Practically legal action is not something I'd consider, being in India, with this guy in the US (domain whois). So hosting complaint is the best way I've seen, and yes as you say maybe email the guy & face him directly is a good way to go (because he can just move to another host)....

    Cheers, RR.

Send me a PM with the URL and I can have a look.

On legal action.. well, it would be much easier for you to take action against someone in the US than vice versa because of the legal culture in the states.. lots of lawyers who'll do anything for a buck. Remember, it's a threat in any case.

A more practical next step is to contact the merchants and networks involved (or threaten to). The threat of being booted from an affiliate program can often be a great motivator.

As for your "more practical next step" it's so so obvious! Gosh, how did I forget it : )
I just recd. a spam mail and complained ot the merchant the other day !
Will do that rightaway if possible......
    Thanks !

    Cheers, RR.

I get the same message. Hmm. Send me an email to dynamoo@spamcop.net and I'll have a look.
