For those that don't know I am a big movie buff. Unfortunately this year has been lackluster in terms of good intelligent films on the big screen. It's probably why I am so excited after seeing No Country For Old Men which is easily the best film I have seen this year.
~It's a Coen Brother's film. While it's not immediately a clear favorite it is easily their best crafted work to date. I am talking as good as Miller's Crossing. That good.
~It's probably the best example I have seen of transferring a novel to screen. They not only capture the tone and fully realize the characters they stay true to story that would have most Hollywood producers saying WTF? Not because the story isn't good, but because producers like cookie cutter stories.
~Remember how you felt when you first saw Hannibal Lecter? The bad guy in this film gives similar chills without being a derivative.
~It is violent but the violence is not romanticized and is not arbitrary.
~Sound. Sound is very important to a film. The Cohen's choose to go with ambient sound over music. What this does is amplify the tension to almost unbearable levels during cat-n-mouse scenes.
~I like films with layers. I like films that make me think that make me replay scenes in my mind like I would replay certain conversations in my life. There is more to this film than just the surface chase plot.
Go see it. You may not love the story but the film is guaranteed to stick with you.

Nice critique Angel. Thanks! I've seen previews of this film and it looks awesome.
I usually stay far away from 'violent' movies. Now I'll be sure to catch it somewhere if I think I can handle the onslaught to my sensitive soul.Peace,
