Somewhere else I read that the 3million number is wrong, its the number of hosting/domains that yahoo has. And the number of yahoo stores is more like 45K.

But still.. a lot of store owners and their affiliates will be eating leftover turkey for a while.

That's why if you use the Yahoo cart, you need to have another option. Add paypal, they take all forms of payment. Be a good back up in these situations.

It was worse than that (and still is) ... having an additional form of payment wouldn't have solved the problem in this case. (although agreed...backup plans are always good)

What a day for that! Wonder what its real impact in terms of dollars will be.

Couldn't they take phone orders and process them manually?

Is this going around as online retail spikes? Our merchant gateway provider (owned by Nova) went down for a couple hours yesterday.

Thankfully, we capture customer data before CC submission, so order recovery was just a matter of picking up the phone and in the end we didn't lose a single order, but it's still a stressful and frustrating experience.

I saw this the other day too in an email I think from Internet Retailer maybe?? I was wondering if it had involved any of our merchants cos it mentioned one who does have an affiliate program. I was in a hurry reading it so only skimmed through it but think it had said that the problem happened at the shopping cart and they were able to take orders by phone.. what I was wondering tho if any of our affiliate programs were sites that may have been impacted by it...guess that would've impacted us if they didn't credit phone sales.
