Hello all, as I read thought some of your threads, I am sort of lost. I don't know where to start. Can anyone give me some begining tips. I thought an affiliate program was linking a site to other companies' sites to sell there product for a commission. I'm a little confused when I read these posts. One in particular, the one entitled "2003 Affiliate Goals - First Quarter Status."

When you all talk about your affiliate programs, what exactly are you speaking of?

Can anyone shed some light?

Take care and thanks in advance.

You ought to create a nice section that can be used as a kind of education for new comers to Affiliate Marketing, Maybe a number of sections such as

1. What is
2. How to Start
3. Summary of Networks
4. What are Parasites
5. Recommended Merchants for starters.

Or that kind of thing

Cheers

That's a great idea, a FAQ area would be a fantastic idea. I'd be more then willing to contribute from the Merchant side of things.

Hey L-Man..

Welcome to ABW. Your confusion is normal, dont be alarmed!! Just keep reading and asking questions and someday it will become sorta less muddled.... and then someday you'll start getting checks in the mail, and you wont care so much that you're still confused on some things!!!

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I thought an affiliate program was linking a site to other companies' sites to sell there product for a commission.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>That's it in a nutshell.

Here's the basic idea:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>Make a webpage.<LI>Feature your affiliate marketing in such a way as to make joe surfer go to the merchant and buy something. How you do this is up to you (within guidlines...). Your site, your creation, hundred ways to make an honest buck here...<LI>Get traffic to your page.<LI>Repeat until you can hire someone to deposit your checks for you
Important thing to remember: It's a LOT of work, you have to learn more than you would ever imagine, and it takes time (and did I mention work...)

Good luck, and hang around and keep asking questions - you'll get it.

So true! You'll start to worry about things like Google updates

My top tips:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>Get a proper domain.
<LI>Keep your costs under control.
<LI>Understand that it's a long learning process, but suddenly it will all click.
<LI>Coding HTML by hand is insane.
If you can make more than you are paying out, then great. If you can make money without paying anything out, then better still. Once you have registered your own domain name, and covered the cost of hosting, and you are making pure profit, then you have come a long way.
It takes a lot of time, and a lot of HARD work. Tons and tons of mistakes are pretty important if you want to learn. Making the initial mistakes can mean massive rewards (if you learn from them) Although don't go so far as to be banned from Google.
Always try to do something different than everyone else. If all you do is create a page with a few affiliate links on it, then don't expect any rewards.

Mistakes.. I've made a few.
But then again, too many to mention.

The worst thing is that I've been burned on pay-per-click so many times that I rarely use it. The *key* thing I found was that you need to make sure that you have a trustworthy merchant before burning off loads of cash.

Hey thanks guys. I can't believe how kind you have been to me in the few short days I've joined this forum. I truly appreciate it.

I will stay, and continue to learn and grow. And like you passed the goods to me, so shall I pass them to others.

Thanks again, and take care all...
