Joann.com "add to cart" not working
With Joann.com, my sales use to be really good. But lately, they have been in the toilet (so to speak).

So I decided to place a 'test' order. When I 'add to cart' I get nothing but a blank white screen with "Done" showing in the lower left hand corner of my browser.

Tried both 'text' link and one of the 'form' links fresh from the CJ back office linking section. Same results ... nothing.

Anybody else notice this? I have a bunch of worthless links on several pages of my site.

By the way, I was able to order the item only after I did a search for the product through a search box on the Joann site. Only then would it "add to cart" successfully. I doubt any visitor would try this or even bother. Just back out completely and go elsewhere. Bye-bye sales!

Wrote to Joann Affiliate manager about this. Hope he writes back soon!

Deb, I don't know if this is just happening with affiliate links but I just accessed the site through my address bar and had no problem with the cart. Try going directly to the site and adding to the cart. If it still doesn't work, check your browser settings.

No, the problem does not exist by going to Joann.com directly. It occurs through my affiliate links I have posted on my site. I have checked several of my affiliate links and they are failing. That is why I am so concerned. Imagine what my site visitors are thinking ....

Deb - I just did a test on one of my affiliate links for Joanns and got a blank page.

I also tested their banner, found an item and added it to the cart. That worked fine.

Ok, then we definitely have a problem.

Banners are pretty much worthless to me. Individual product links are how I make sales ... unless they don't work!

I just went and replaced 2 of my old links with new ones through CJ and tested again. Goes to the product page fine, click add to cart then you get the blank page. I thought maybe I had up some old links. Yes, a ugly problem right here at the holiday season.

I agree with you about banners, I rarely use them.

I wonder if this just started happening with their new site design. It looks good, but the links don't work.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the link going to a URL with this in it:
"... catalog_old.jsp ...". The word "OLD" makes me suspicious!

I noticed the OLD too. That's why I went and replaced those links, it does make you wonder. Hopefully, the affiliate manager will let you know something soon.

I tested Joann.com text affiliate links on several different affiliate sites and everything is working fine. I hope the affiliate manager can replicate this issue for you.

I'll be back here to post the response I get. Hope I don't have to wait a couple of weeks ... like some managers make us

You did, Snowman? I couldn't find any other sites (when I did a Google search) for sites that link to individual products. Just banners and coupon codes. Like msladybug said, the banner links work ... just not individual prod links ...

You know when you use the CJ linking system, and you have 3 options for links: form, text and image ...

Well, in the 'form' section they show you exactly what your link will look like. I clicked on the "BUY" button and it happens right there. No need to paste into my site to test.

Well, I am at my wits end. I have written to the affiliate manager 5 times through private e-mail and through the CJ contact form. Nobody has answered my messages!

    Doesn't anybody care ...

Just to follow-up on this note you posted:

I received your PM and visited one of the sites you tested and NO, the individual product links did NOT work. Add to cart ended up with a WHITE BLANK page, just like my testing.

You verifiy this ... told me I should contact the site owner ... which I have not done ... yet ...

Thanks Deb for the update. Some link pulling may be in order after the first of the year. No point promoting products that people can't even add to the cart.

    I know!

I take my affiliate marketing very seriously. Most managers say they are very impressed with the effort I put into promoting their products. I choose a theme for each page and dig through the merchants site to find only products that pertain to that page's theme. It is a lot of work and dedication on my part.

I just can't believe Joann's affiliate manager doesn't respond to my cries for HELP! But because of all the work I have put into this merchant, I refuse to just delete it all. These are products my site visitors are searching for!

I am testing a new link format on my own, (based on a 'link to any page' code provided to me by other similar merchants) but so far they have not converted.

I have a continuous headache from all the hair I have pulled out of my head waiting for a reply ...

If it's easy for you to temporarily override links, you may want to just send them all to the affiliate link for the home page. At least that will track. Conversion ratio won't be as good as linking directly to the product, but it'll be better than no tracking or broken links.

Not such an easy task. We're talking about many, many pages with lots and lots of links ....

If you have a phone number for the AF manager can you PM me?

Deb - I hope everything gets straightened out so you don't have to look for alternatives. Luckily, I don't have too many links up for Joann so getting rid of them will not cause a problem for me.

Well, there is one possible alternative ... did you know that Joann offers all of their products through Amazon's web site?

No, I didn't, thanks for sharing that. I usually do pretty well with Amazon so that is a definite option. Not sure what the commission difference is but at this point it beats an unresponsive affiliate manager, a dead cart and no commission.

I am glad you are sharing my sentiments here, msladybug. Not to be harsh, but I thought for sure this thread would evoke a much better response or at least some interest. Maybe we are the only ones promoting craft supplies. BTW, Joann's is 8%. Needlesstosay, Amazon depends on the tier level you achieve. Not as much commission, but a better experience for our visitors.

I am now swapping out my links ...

Head's Up! Just received this message from a new member of the Joann Affiliate Management team:

"... Thank you for alerting us to this technical issue involving the shopping cart feature relative to affiliate sites. We were able to replicate the problem using the links you provided. Our technical team has been advised of the issue and is in the process determining the cause of the glitch so that it may be addressed ... "

    Yes, it's a glitch ... of major proportions. I knew I wasn't just having a bad dream!
