Activity Summary Q...Converting Hits 2 Sales
    Hello,

Apologies for this newbie questions, but I've searched through the forums...

I'm looking for a timeframe benchmark from hit (cookie creation) to product sale. If I am getting traffic to the site and some hits to merchants' products, should I see some level of activity within minutes? Or, days/weeks?

I've blown through my ad budget already... Hmm...any tips for a newbie?

Also, are there any general constraints or rules around doing test purchases?

    Thanks!

Most people who do buy, buy within a day. You can do test purchases.

No, just what your pocketbook can handle. But if you're just starting off, I would start off slow. Sometimes PPC can drain you $$$ if you're not careful. Even after doing this awhile you might want to have some limit where you will cut it off if you're not seeing any sales. Everybody's limit will be different.

It depends a lot on the industry you're promoting as well. Some industries will convert most of their sales right when the customer arrives at their site. Others have sales cycles of 3 days, 7 days, 30 days, more in some cases.

A good AM should know his or her program's average sales cycle. Ask them.

All SAS affiliate managers have access to return days analysis. They should all be ABLE to provide you with that data. I have no issue sharing it from any of my programs, but I can't vouch that all will.

SAS has a report feature called Merchant Timespan (if I remember the name correctly) that shows the time between setting cookies and converting. It can only show after you have sale/s though. Shows my average as two weeks after setting the cookie, but that is an average. Expect it to be different for different types of products.

The merchant timespan is where you pick a date and merchant and can see some stats.

There is a Return Days Analysis link under Tools that will give you that info. Mine has 73% buying on the same day. Total of 83% within 2 days, 8% over 15 days etc. That was for my overall last 100 sales. You can further break it down by merchant.

Good advice here! Check out the return day analysis at SAS, can learn a bunch from what you see there.
