There was a time I was converting at like 20% with them and they had leaks and stopped them from showing for awhile from affiliate traffic. Then they switched that up and even more leaks. Has to be one of the leakiest merchants I know of.

I must have manure for brains because I still don't understand what a "leaky" merchant is or what that means.

Means they have a bunch of links on their site that we don't get paid for. Usually links to other merchants and programs. Sometimes some of the same ones you can have on your site yourself. So you can send them traffic and that traffic can click on those links and we don't get compensated but Buy.com does.

Seymour, a leaky merchant is one that has anything on their site that generates revenue for them and not for the affiliate. That could be a prominent 800 number with no phone tracking in place or Adsense or other ads on their site that we get no commission for.

Basically, you send them traffic and they monetize that traffic in ways that don't include you in the equation.

If I had a dollar for all the times I've said that program is nothing but 5hit, I'd be rich!

Shoot, I even had a whole hour on my old radio show where I castigated them when they plastered join yub banners and links all over affiliate traffic, this was of course after they had adsense all over affiliate traffic - "to complement the offering" as they said LOL

Melissa will probably show up in this thread like she did in the others, promising that crap like this (like the ads, like the pg integration...) will go away for affiliate links, but it never does.
This really is one of the worst run programs.
If they would just listen to reason to their affiliates, they could keep their lead over overstock, and even beat newegg, bestbuy and some of their other competitors, but right now, any smart affiliate marketer chooses one of those other stores over buy.com any chance they get.

They had some products I wanted to promote but couldn't find anywhere else, so I applied twice in the past and got declined both times. I'm thinking now, I got lucky ...

    Their commercials suck too.

Never have promoted them and never will.
