    Virginia Tech Marching Virginians
I wasn't sure where to post this because it certainly isn't a "daily chuckle" but it is not affiliate marketing related either.

As my team the Kansas Jayhawks take on the Virginia Tech Hokies tonight I will be rooting against VT, but in my heart we all have to root for them a little bit after the year that they have had.

I found this video on You Tube and just had to share of the Virginia Tech Marching Virginia’s playing a new arrangement of Amazing Grace that was written as a tribute to one of their members and the 32 students that lost their lives in the VTech shootings.

The band student that died played the baritone.

You will hear that the arrangement begins with the baritone’s alone – the rest of the band joins – then you hear a dissonance, four tone clusters comprised of eight notes each — to represent a tribute to the 32 souls lost – then Amazing Grace pushes through again. In the end you will hear that before the final chords they bring it down to one lone baritone.

    Virginia Tech - Amazing Grace

    Amazing Grace, indeed.

PF stands for prairie something-or-other I assume?

You might as well tell me because I'll just ask my Kansas cousins (two KU grads) if you don't!

    So who won?

PF is just initials for the company that I work at. Not any secret code or anything.

    KU WON !!!!

I was so excited and proud that they represented the school so well in the national spotlight. KU is mostly known for its basketball, so this football season has been amazing. A lot of fun to watch.

As someone from Missouri, I applaud the Jayhawks' victory anyway.

Uh, although I would point out -- their one loss this season was to the team which REALLY deserved to be in the Orange Bowl. (Although we did quite well in the Cotton Bowl, thank you very much!)

    Go Mizzou!

I really don't take all this as seriously as I may have sounded. In reality, my son is a UM-Rolla engineering graduate -- and he feels much more allegiance to Mizzou than I.

We moved to Missouri when our two kids were tiny (both in their 30s now), and I just am happy BOTH Kansas and Missouri did so well this year.

Of course, on a related subject, I was born and lived my first 10 years in a small town near Lincoln, Nebraska. So ....

    Geez. We go into the Orange Bowl and dominate for most of the game but you're still going to say that we didn't deserve to be there? {sigh}

When it comes to post-season play I always root for all Big XII teams because I want the conference to do well. If I have to choose between the Big XII teams and the "old" Big 8 teams, I choose Big 8.

I thought Mizzou did a great job and would have loved for Oklahoma to do better. If Missou, OU, Colorado, and KU had ALL won it would have been a clean sweep for my Big 8 theory.

Anyway. After watching the video that I posted above I felt sort of bonded to the Virginia band. I enjoyed watching them last night. Of course I love the KU band because I was in it for a year and then was the Baby Jayhawk mascot for a year.

    Rock Chalk!
