    Goodbye Netscape browser, R.I.P.
    http://blog.netscape.com/2007/12/28/...-web-browsers/

"AOL's focus on transitioning to an ad-supported web business leaves little room for the size of investment needed to get the Netscape browser to a point many of its fans expect it to be. Given AOL's current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it's the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reins fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox."

Time for the final nail in the coffin, huh? That's sad... the end of an era, really. Yet another example of a major corporation buying something they don't really understand and ruining it. Thanks, AOL.

Me too. But we don't have to stop using it just because they don't support it anymore, do we?

This brings back memories. My first affiliate site was made using Netscape 4.5 Composer. No wonder I didn't make a dime in the first 6 months!
Actually, the post Mozilla Netscape is hardly much different from FF although I have found it prone to locking up quite a bit. So I have already switched over to FF. The pic below shows what this site looks like using a Netscape 4.5 browser!

When AOL took over Netscape, I wondered if this would be the final result. I was a loyal Netscape fan since waaaaay back when and it was my main browser until a few months ago when I started using FireFox as my main browser.

I still have v7.2 installed and use it from time to time so I'm sorry to see this come to an end. I also enjoy the Netscape skin for my browser so it's like I'm still using Netscape.

Too bad, I remember the days when they were IE's #1 Rival, but times have changed. Looks like FireFox is filling this role nicely now.

Does anybody know if development on Seamonkey (a Netscape spinoff) will continue?
