Just got the email about some new terms with affiliates. Now i agree about affiliates not bidding on TM names in PPC. But i don't agree on this:
"Additionally, no affiliate can use "Checks Unlimited" or "Current Checks" as the
title of their website or webpage. You must disclose affiliate status up front."
I think when most of us make pages we usually have mydomain.com/merchantname I don't see anything wrong with this since that would be what the page is about if you're making a page for a merchant.

I tried to join Checks Unlimited in Feb but I couldn't find them in befree. What category are they listed? At first I saw them in B2B but not anymore. Is it just me??

I've had a merchant threaten me with legal action if I didn't remove the merchant name from the url I had for them. My pages were named - mydomain.com/merchantname/merchant-product.html
They considered it a violation of trademarks - I don't know if they were right or wrong and as far as I was concerned the issue was a mute point since I had already deleted the site in question before this merchant had ever contacted me. It was just a matter of waiting for google to remove the 404 urls at that point in time. But this company continued to make an issue of it because they demanded that my 404's result in a completely dead page instead of a custom 404 - at that point - I ignored them and I never heard from them again and by the next google update all those search engine references were gone anyway just as I had told the company they would be.
Regardless I no longer name my pages with any mention of the merchant name in them. Easier than putting up with the hassles or risk losing an affiliation over if they are a good merchant.

Moving this thread into the Café as this is more of a general affiliate issue and not necessarily only related to checks unlimited .
