OFFICIAL: List of Merchants temporarily offline on SAS
Looks like another magazine vendor, magazinemaster[.]com, is having trouble. Their status is temporarily offline now, though no email has been sent out yet. 2008 is shaping up to be a tough year for magazine vendors.

    Dear all,

I can confirm that we have gone offline for good. Those who follow the electronics sector would be aware that the PDA market had collapsed in favour of mobile phones with PDA functions i.e. smartphones. We were also troubled by a continous stream of employee problems, ranging from sudden resignations to prolonged sick leave.

Therefore although we no longer feel that it is worthwhile to continue the store. We have decided to concentrate on the webpublishing side of our business instead. I wish to thank you all for all the support you have give us through all these years. I am sorry that we had to end the program.

    Bent Gear
Bent Gear is down. Dahles goes offline about once every other week. I doubt they watch their balance. Someone needs to give them a call, and they will come back up.

Looking at the frequency that sites go offline, this thread would get huge if we all wrote a message about each site that goes dark.

This thread also would provide no info that is not in SaS.

I think that the rule for a Temp Off Line thread should be that a site goes down and that an attempt to contact a business during business hours is attempted.

I suspect that many of the temp offline problems are a break down in communications. A few might be because a merchant had a spike in sales and needs time to collect money to go back online.

I notice that iMed is still offline today, more than 4 days after going "temporarily offline." During the past 6 months, iMed has been offline 9 times, usually for less than a day; they've already fallen offline twice in the first 9 days of this year.

I'm removing them from all my PopShops pages today.

"One Stop Shop Catalog" has been offline for almost a week (since 01/07/2008 at 2:56:29 PM).

I've just stripped out all PopShops links to this merchant also.

To clarify: out of the 197 merchants who are "temporarily offline," 46 merchants have a "bad history" (including at least one outage lasting 30 days or longer): 4Linkcomm, AmberLynChocolates.com, Inc., Anewell International, Antix Clothing, Apex Direct, Artprint Collection Inc., BarterBee.com, Inc, BentGear.com, Boatsville.com, BondRewards, Bytecc Inc., Canvas Artists, CertFX, Darberg Stores LLC, DeskGear (A Div. of Peachtree Type & Design), DogGiftShop.com, Eink4u.com / Top Inkjet, Inc., eValueZone.com, Inc., Final Smoke, Inc., FINANCEMYPC, freewhiteningkits.com, GetEstore.com, getpin.com, GoMyLocal.com, Heavyweights Inc., HyperWiper.com, Kelley Furniture, Lease Purchase Leads, LINXSatellite.com, Magazine Master LLC, Netintelligence, OutletPC.com, pantyhose & stockings hosiery, PE Advantage, Preservation Solutions, Pricester.com,Inc., RevBoard.com, SipMedia, Sophee Corporation, SurveyScout, Toon Boom Animation Inc., Unkl Brand, LLC, WineZap, Zlio

It is possible that some of the other merchants also have a "bad history" but evaded detection by my spreadsheet because they changed their "merchant name." (At least one other merchant closed an old account with a "bad history" and opened a new account that shows no "offline" events.)

    Merchant Vacations
Today, I received this email auto-response from "African-American Wigs dot net" a ShareASale merchant which has been offline since January 8.

    > "1/16 thru 1/26 No orders will be processed. I will be on vacation. If you do not want to wait, you have until Midnight 1/26 to cancel. Please return an email to (address) if you wish to cancel the order. 1/28 I will begin processing the orders, if you did not cancel the order, it will go through. However, if you then choose to cancel, once your account has been charged, there will be a 30% restocking fee. Please see the return policy under the contacts page of our site." <

I realize that small business owners sometimes need to "close their business" to take a vacation or to deal with personal or family issues. While this reflects poorly on the professionalism of the business, it's sometimes a necessary evil.

But there's a right way to do it, and there's a wrong way.

I'm pretty disappointed in this particular business. They were already offline for 8 days before going on vacation, and they apparently made no effort to notify affiliates or customers about the vacation, via email or via a notice on the web site.

Most annoying: right now, at the top of the merchant's web site, it says "Same Day Shipping!" in large letters. But of course, no products will be shipped until at least January 28.

Wow, here's another one, this from Gorilla Gadgets:

    > "We will be out of the country attending to family matter for one week. I will have email access sporadically and will be responded to customer service inquiries in the order they are received. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Normal operations will resume next Wednesday." <

I feel more sympathy to a "family matter" than a vacation.

The home page of the merchant's web site clearly says:

    > "Down for Maintenance ... The site is currently down for maintenance. Please excuse the dust, and try back later." <

Just noticed invalid links because ShoeDeals4u.com went temporarily offline for the third time in a week (offline 16 hours on the 17th, 5 hours on the 21st; and again today). No, they don't have auto-deposit.

FYI, ShoeDeals4U did deposit funds to re-activate their SAS account after only 1 hour and 5 minutes, this time.

    WOW !

What I saw in the plumbersurplus.com control panel today and seeing the thread just convinced me NEVER TO use share a sale.

All I have to say is WHAT is wrong with these companies?

Thanks for the inspiring thread AND most of all THANKS for saving me all the headaches that you all have endured.

I think I will stick with private ad sales as I have been,....

    What a bunch of jokers..........

Selah Jewelry has been offline since January 14; looking at their history, they were offline three times in December (one of those for 5 days). They apparently set up auto-deposit in late December, but now they are offline again.

For some reason, I included them in several of the shops I created this week. I am so glad that PopShops allows me to strip them from all my shops with a single command.
