Nobody asked, but here is my 50K per month business advice:

    1) Only sell products that you can promote with paid advertising and still make a profit.

    2) Pour all of you profits into more advertising.

    3) Repeat step 2 until you can make a "volume" deal with your merchants/suppliers, thus increasing your per unit profit.

    4) Continue with step 2 for ten more years.

    5) Retire to Florida.

I did not invent this strategy. I learned it from a company called Procter & Gamble.

P.S. As a side benefit to this approach, you never have to ask the question "What/When is the Google Dance?"

I like it. I had the same philosophy when starting out! I didn't learn it from P&G, but I picked it up by reading about companies like that.

Then OverSure made it darn near impossible/outright impossible (depending on keyword) to buy a listing. And I found, or shall I say, I was *driven to*...

    GOOGLE...

That's not just a "side benefit." It's a GREAT benefit!

There must be other ways to get traffic besides google or other search engines. Such traffic is so vulnerable to changes in search algorithm

Any ideas how to do well in email marketing, double opt in, non spammy sort.

Loyalty building, so customers bookmark your site and keep visiting.

I know how to do that for a c*ntent site. But how do you do that for a sales site? Traffic building for a c*ntent site is a cinch but for a sales site, it is very different.

Leader, thanks for your advice. I followed it and almost hit the first milestone last month. Should make it this month if all goes well.

You are right about sales vs content. My EPC from my existing content site is less than 1 tenth that of the EPC from a brand new sales site. Pure sales sites perform more than 10 times better than a content site.

If I ever do decide to purchase advertising, it will be non-internet ads such as tabloid journals or magazines classified ads. People do read them. Must have very memorable URLs.

I have thought of using specialist magazines, but how do you monitor response and ROI?

    GOOGLE!

My site is buried in somewhere at 45612135 in google in their new index!

I am going to lost at least 80% of my revenue.

Buy a new domain name and point it to your current site. You can track all the hits from the new domain. This method of tracking will cost you 9 dollars/year.

The longer I'm on ABW, the happier I am that we do not have to depend on Google for a majority of our traffic.

Yeah - I used to follow that same philosophy and gave Yahoo nearly 10K last year. Well you know the story. Oneday, I'll find a way to get back on top of the affiliate game. But for now, at least it's paying the bills. What can I say.
