Most Frequently Asked Questions Before Approval:

What does it take to convert a visitor into a lead?
You will generate tons of leads by simply linking to the talking cards with the marketing materials we provide. A "lead conversion" occurs whenever a visitor sends a talking card. Note: we do not provide on site delivery of the talking cards. Instead, we provide the sender a link they can copy & paste into an email message on their own. Therefore, you might be asking, "how are we able to tell if they sent the card or not?". This is simple, we give the sender the benefit of the doubt. If the sender previews or lands on the card they have customized, this is considered "a lead conversion".

What does it take to convert a visitor into a sale?
You will generate sales easily be promoting the talking cards with the marketing materials we provide. Whenever a visitor decides they want to use one of our premium features, or they want to send one of our premium cards, they will purchase an "access key" ( aka membership ). This is considered a "sale conversion". Premium content and features are advertised throughout the card customization process, thereby increasing your chances for success.

Are there free talking cards that I can promote?
Yes, there are lots of them. In fact, most of our cards are completely free. The only exception is our premium cards, which can only be sent by paid users. The limitations on sending free talking cards are as follows: a) free talking cards cannot be customized with backgrounds, music, voices, etc. b) free talking cards are delivered on pages that contain advertising. c) free talking cards cannot use "your own voice". All of these features are considered "premium". Premium features are promoted throughout the card sending process, and users will need an access key in order to unlock them. The purchase of an access key is considered a "sale conversion" for you, the affiliate.

Can I Advertise Across Multiple Domains That I Own?
Yes, you can! There are no restrictions on which domains you're running the ads from. If you operate multiple web sites, feel free to use any of the marketing materials we provide on any of our sites. Again: your affiliate links will work from any domain, no matter what site you've specified in your account information during or after signup.

What are the terms & conditions for the affiliate program?
We require all affiliates to read and accept our affiliate agreement ( in it's entirety ) before taking part in our affiliate program. If you have any questions or concerns about your relationship with TalkingCards.com, please contact your account manager as specified in your account. They will be happy to answer questions and/or clarify any confusion. The affiliate agreement is posted here: http://www.talkingcards.com/legal/af...-agreement.php

Is there a way for me to host the talking cards from my own domain?
Yes, it's called "cobranding the card interface". Use the code builder to generate your own code snippets for this. You can provide the code builder with as much or as little as you like, then press "Build Snippet". You'll place the code snippet it generates on your site. The full documentation for the code builder and card interface is available here: http://www.talkingcards.com/mysite/

How much money can I make promoting TalkingCards.com ?
This is entirely up to you. We have some affiliates earning thousands every month, while others don't do so well at all. Your success has a lot to do with how devoted you are to promoting our program, and how well you're able to integrate all of our content into your own web site(s). Timing is also important. If we are two weeks away from Valentine's Day, you should be promoting Valentine ecards heavily, and not birthday cards. On that same note: when we release new talking characters, you should be the first to start promoting them. Every time something "new" comes out, you should start to see some increases in click through and conversion ratios. But you have to remember to check the notifications we send out, and/or log into your affiliate account to keep your site up-to-date with the latest content.

On what day of the month do you pay affiliates?
We release funds much faster than most affilate programs do. We pay on the 1st of the month, for commissions earned in the previous month, and we always pay on time! For instance, if you earn $2000.00 in June, you get paid for your June commissions at the end of that month, on July 1st. To clarify this even further, if you have your account preferences set to receive payments via "PayPal", your funds will be released on the 1st of every month, and you will receive payment that same day via PayPal. If you have chosen not to be paid through PayPal, then we'll mail you a check instead, which may take 5-7 business days to arrive. Checks are mailed on the 1st of the month ( the same day funds are released ).

Do I have to send you a W-9 tax form?
If you live in the USA, we MUST have a W-9 tax form on file in order to pay you. If we have not received and processed your W-9, we will hold funds until you have submitted your W-9 form. A scanned copy of your W-9 form should be emailed to affiliates -AT- dongo.com ( be sure to include your Affiliate ID# on the form ). Or you can fax it to us at: 708-570-0858. Even if you're incorporated, we always need to have a tax form on file before we can release funds to you. You can download the W-9 tax form here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf

What happens if I don't meet the minimum payout requirement?
Minimum payout amount is $100. If on the 1st of the month, your current balance is less than $100, you will not be paid. Instead, your current balance will continue rolling over into the next month's earnings until it reaches $100 or more. Once you reach the minimum payout amount, funds will be released the month following ( always on the 1st of the month ). Note: sign-on bonuses do not count toward minimum payout. If you just joined our program, in order to be paid, you must "earn" at least $100 before you'll meet minimum payout requirements.

Can I link to individual talking cards and/or pages?
Yes, we provide marketing materials for that including thumbnails for each character that you can place on your web site. This provides you with the ability to build a micro-site offering talking cards. Alternatively, you can build & track your own links. This allows you to build ( or define ) a custom link to any page at TalkingCards.com.

Can I promote talking cards in my email newsletter(s)?
Yes, you can use our Basic email Links for this. We offer them in both plain text and HTML format. Warning: We do NOT allow SPAMMING! If we catch you spamming users with links to TalkingCards.com, we WILL close your account on the first offense! We have ZERO TOLERANCE for this. If we receive complaints regarding our links in "spam like" email messages, we will not hesitate to close your account on the first offense. There are no second chances when it comes to email abuse.

Do you allow incentivized sites to promote your program?
Absolutely not! If your site is incentivized, you may not promote our program. If we find out that you are promoting our program through incentives, your account will be suspended. Definition of "Incentivized": Any web site whose visitors have received some form of compensation for visiting a site and/or completing a defined action. In other words, you cannot offer your visitors a cash reward ( or any other form of compensation ) for signing up at TalkingCards.com or sending a talking card.

Can I add my own promotional text to go with some of the marketing materials you provide?
Yes, you can do this. Feel free to modify the text in the text links. You may also use our banners to create variations that could be stored on your own web site. Just be sure that you don't change the links, because in doing so, you risk breaking the tracking capabilities of the links. Also, if you plan to make any significant modifications, you should read our entire affiliate agreement to make sure you're not violating it in any way. If you're ever in doubt, it's best to contact your account manager as specified in your account. The affiliate agreement is posted here: http://www.talkingcards.com/legal/af...-agreement.php

What are 'standard commissions' exactly?
A "standard commission" is simply what we use to describe all commissions that are not a) a bonus of some kind, or b) a 2-tier commission. Bonus and 2-tier commissions are counted separately from everything else. In other words, most all of your commissions will be marked "standard commissions". A bonus commission may be issued when you first signed up, or when you've reached a performance goal. 2-tier commissions are earned by referring other webmasters to our program. 2-tier, meaning: if you recruit affiliate A, and affiliate A earns a commission, you receive a percentage of that commission, which will come in on your second tier.

How many webmasters can I recruit? Is there a 2-tier limit?
No, there is no limit. You can recruit as many webmasters as you're able to. You receive 10% of every commission earned by a webmaster that signed up under you, for as long as both you and the second tier affiliate have affiliate accounts. To recruit other webmasters into our program, please get your 2-tier linking code here.

We've dropped the signup bonus. Instead of a bonus, we've simply lowered the minimum payout requirement to only $10 instead of $100. This should make things simpler and easier for new affiliates. We hope the lower minimum balance will entice more of you to try us out.

We're seeing some nice integrations with our talking cards. A few of you have created micro-sites, which is great. The "Talking Pug" and "The Talking Rat" have been the most popular so far. We're working to add more "real photo" characters for you to promote as well.

You have Google ads on your pages which is a leak.

Affiliates send you their hard-earned traffic and you send OUR visitors off on a Google click where you make money and we don't. Not at all cool.

This is not intended to be a leak for affiliates. TalkingCards.com is a site in and of itself. We encourage all affiliates to utilize the co-branding that we offer to overcome anything you may consider a leak on TalkingCards.com itself. All affiliates are provided with tools inside their account which allows them to place the actual talking cards on their own website, and even private label them. Using this method, allows you to earn 100% of the ad revenue on your own web site.
