Which airport? There are 3 major airports in NYC area.

You are pretty far from the Summit hotel. You might be able to take the subway, a cab would be expensive from there, and it isn't walking distance. I'll send the subway expert in tomorrow to help out with that.

cool... lot of great info from Rhia

I plan to take the subway ... it will cost less...

and I am coming from JKF. So I will have to travel 8 miles daily for 3 days for the summit.

Can anyone advice how can I buy a used cell phone for 3-4 days and what should it cost?

you don't need a used cell phone. Go to any store and get a prepaid phone. It will cost you around $50.

ps: If you don't like to smell urine do not attempt to use public street phones in NYC.

Rhia's guide by subway is good but if it was me I would just stay on the "A" train to 125th street instead of doing the transfer to the "2 or 3" train. It is only a few blocks walk from the "A" train.

When you are leaving JFK airport make sure the airtrain you get on is going to the Howard Beach station and not the one heading to Jamaica center.
