On the Brand Name and Product Keyword Bonuses where an affiliate is allowed to rank a keyword twice in the top ten or top five to qualify, the two rankings can be for different eligible variations of the brand name or product keyword. For example; ranking “Rad 2 Go” and “Rad2Go electric scooters” would qualify as successfully ranking that brand name.

CONTEST RULES

● No contest entry required.

● The contest begins 11/15/04 and ends 12/31/04. We begin counting posts eligible for the Spirit Award Bonus on 10/30/04.

● Affiliates must be in compliance with the terms of UrbanScooters.com’s affiliate agreement and Shareasale’s affiliate agreement to be eligible to claim prizes in this contest.

● Keyword rankings will be verified on UrbanScooters.com company computers according to results obtained from www.google.com. The results generated from Google are from keywords entered without quotation marks.

● Reaching Google rankings by using hidden text, hidden links, cloaking, sneaky redirects or meta refresh will be grounds for disqualification and the forfeit of all prizes.

● In order to preserve the privacy of our affiliates we will not mention their names publicly in relation to this contest. However, if an affiliate would like to claim their success, gloating in this forum is by all means welcome.

OK, I'm confused already. You say, for example:

Does this mean I have to have "every brand name" to win anything? Or if I have one and someone else has another, we each win something?

Actually, it probably doesn't make any difference to me this year, since Google hates me. Fortunately there are other search engines and they still love me.

We carry 11 scooter brands that are represented in this contest. If you take a look at our Product Keyword List you'll find a number of keywords associated with each one of these scooter brands.

To win the specific bonus you mention (the Top 5 Brand Name Keyword Bonus), you must rank EVERY scooter brand represented in the contest either once in the top 5 or twice in the top 10 on Google. However, you have a number of different keywords available per brand to reach that goal. So, if you rank two different keywords from our Product Keyword list that are related to the same brand in the top 10... and do this across all 11 brands... and do this first... you win.

Now... that might sound tough, but we had many affiliates that hit that mark last year!

My understanding is that these are bonuses for people who only promote UrbanScooters. And that, yes, you need to have ALL brand names in the top five to win that bonus. That being said, the real prize is in generating the most commissions.

However, being the cunning SEO that I am, I would personally target the bonus related to all the scooter models. If you already have scooter traffic and an established site, by targeting the variations of the scooter model keywords, I'm pretty certain that you can get the brands into the top 5 as well. In fact, if you create decent pages, I'm certain of it.

Mike: I was under the impression we were all in the internet MARKETING business in one way or another. Our job as affiliates, AMs, internet marketers and SEOs is to bring business to the companies we work with. Please stop moaning when a solid company like UrbanScooters.com steps up to the plate and incentivizes people to do what they are probably doing already.

Our Product Keyword List and eligibility to the keyword ranking portion of this contest is open to affiliates who don't promote websites offering the same brand and model scooters we do (or clones of those brands and models). That's not a 100% exclusivity requirement, but it does limit the playing field a bit.

BTW... I can see how this could be confusing. We refer to our Product Keyword list as our "Non-Exclusive" keyword list in the ABW post titled Holiday Keyword List... come and get 'em. In that post we offer a second keyword list that contains general scooter terms which we do reserve for 100% exclusive affiliates.

You see, while we love all our affiliates, we do offer perks to affiliates who focus their energy on selling Urban scooters rather than our scooters and other folks scooters, too. The more focused the effort the more keywords we shell out.

That said the keyword ranking portion of this contest contains less than half the cash. Most of the prize money is lumped into our Grand Prize, Early Bird Bonus, Veteran Bonus, Newbie Bonus and Spirit Award Bonus... and that cash is open to EVERY AFFILIATE.

That certainly doesn't disqualify you from the main prizes in this contest.

Only the Keyword Bonuses come with restrictions like that. In regard to the Keyword Bonuses, the contest rules state;

This could be interpreted as applying to the entire website linked to or the individual web pages linked to. My original thought was that this rule applies to the entire website linked to, but since there are quite a number of big box sites promoting scooters, I'm going to apply this rule a little differently from here on out.

From here forward I'm going to say that this rule applies to the individual web pages an affilate links to with the condition that an affiliate does promote the site as a destination for purchasing scooters, or link to pages that in any way promote the sale of scooters.
