We have a Sports Memorabilia Site we'd like to add Collegejerseys but I do not see any reference to a Product Data Feed at SAS? I have come to the place where I refuse to ADD ANYTHING one - by -one...Will you be planning one, Sean?

I have been working on getting something together regarding a Data Feed, but it is all kinda new to me... What format would be best for you and other affiliates, CSV, XML or a Web Service???

The one problem we are trying to overcome with the data feed is that our inventory changes so frequent and we want make sure our affiliates are listing inventory we still have in stock. Since 90% or so of our items are one of a kind items we need to make sure we handle the Data Feed right...

If you or anyone else can give me some feedback on the best way to get you a feed I will do it.

We also sell one-of-a-kind Collectibles and updating the list can be a task and a half. We like csv files and use them in MySQL Tables.

I joined your program several months ago and had sent along a question about a datafeed at the time. As it stands right now, I have a hard time intergrating your products into my sites without a feed.

BUT, I would love to have a "generic" feed in either csv or txt. One that has links to each team's pages, as well as an image of a jersey for that team, a low and high price range and a short description would do nicely. I believe this would be alot easier than continually updating a regular feed.

As I said, I would love to have your products on my sites, especially this coming football season

Since you say that 90% or so of your items are one of a kind items, I think that if you have a dynamic search box link and or the PSC (Product Showcase Creator) or (something similar) available to the affiliates, maybe the affiliates can make some product pages and you don't have to deal with a datafeed of temporary products.

That's just an idea.

good idea, if you can either make your own page generator or buy into affsolutions.com's PSC setup. the possibility of an affiliate putting up a panel of products that taps your datafeed and delivers current products is very nice. especially for the datafeed-challenged.

BurgerBoy... The cookie duration is set to never expire. If i put out a .CSV file do you guys have a way to pull it daily and not have to redo alot of work???

I think I can easily export a .CSV and post it on the site for you all to download.

I know I can easily get you links into each teams pages (or at least the major teams which is probably what you want), now the question would be coming up with the price ranges and descriptions... I might be able to come up with a standard write up where we just change out the Team name, but everything else is the same... As far as images, we can use any image or two from our site possibly.

Let me know is this will work for you and what timeframe you are looking at... Also, thanks for joinging the program.

We certainly could use it in just that manner as we do with many others. It would be more difficult for us to use the PSC for this product as it changes so often but I certainly understand affiliates wanting to have a page of products.

The other thing that is helpful and many Affiliate Managers keep us posted of updates. One could elect by email response to receive a reminder email or announcement (even just an email Subject that said something like "Collegejersey.com datafeed has been Updated" That would be enough for me.) It is easy to loose a few days with incorrect data and if it turned out that it was only a couple times a week, it would be a reminder to "catch up". Many customers WILL NOT return if they have any problems with the data or not available or incorrect price etc. People can click VERY FAST.

Can you please explain to me a little more this option... I am curious to give people as many different options as I can b/c no two affiliates are the same. What may be easy for you may not be easy for the next guy... So, I want to better understand your idea as well.

On average we sell roughly 5-7 items a day so basically every day the .CSV would need to be update, correct... But my real question is this... What is the worst that can happen if an customer clicks on an affiliates link and the product has sold... Do you think they will leave or look around for a replacement item?

I am just trying to guage how often an affiliate would need to update his site with the new .CSV and if he/she didn't what would be the worst thing to happen???

the Dynamic PSC changes inventory right along with each refresh of your datafeed. the non-dynamic versions don't.

I could handle a generic description for each team, major teams or otherwise. The more teams the better. As for images, a thumbnail size image and a larger one would do a world of good. I can live with or without the prices. It's just as easy to put "Click here for prices" or something along those lines where the price should be. Timeframe? I know I would need it at least 2-3 months before the start of football season

Looks good. That would work for me & no problem pulling that daily and adding it to a site feed. The product links need to be constructed specially for CJ so that we get credit, though.

Looks good Sean. The problem I would have would be that I run all my datafeeds thru Webmerge and there's no way to pull a feed daily and generate updated pages. I'd spend all of my time uploading pages.

Just a thought though. Where does a customer go when they click on a link to an out of stock item? If it directs to the team landing page, then I definately could use the feed you just made up for my purposes.

Perhaps once a week, month or quarter you could generate a teams feed like was discussed above.

Either way, I look forward to getting these links up and making us both some money

Currently our site will still take the customer to the item page, however when they go to purchase the item they will receive a stock warning and will not be able to purchase the jersey.

However, we are also in the process of evaluating a new website solution and this may be handled differently if we decide to make the change. In neither case though will a customer get to an error page or anything...

Plus, once you get them there they will most likely shop around and maybe buy 1 or 2. So the goal in mind is to get them to the site somehow so they can shop around and purchase a jersey!

I'm still somewhat new to SaS, so I'm not sure but I think the product links don't work unless they have a copy of your feed. I did a search for product links there and nothing was coming back.

Usually it's something like:

I'll defer to someone who knows more about advanced SaS linking than I do. :-)

Feed is usable In your case you may want to explore a more dynamic solution. But if what you typed earlier is true:

I would think that if your making only a few sales a day you might not have the means (money) to buy into something like PSC unless you have an inhouse programming whiz that could set you up something. Your going to get alot of affiliates but you will find only a small percentage will actually make sales. Jerseys have alot of competition and unless the affiliate already has jersey or sports memorabilia traffic, most affs are not going to send you much traffic. I guess what I am trying to say is be careful. We demand alot. Datafeeds are great, but if you provide one, you need to set guidelines as your inventory changes daily, alot of "one of a kind" jerseys. If your affiliates cannot update atleast once a week, you might run into problems with customers sending you emails or calling about out of stock products they see on your site.

Someone earlier asked about advanced linking through SaS. I'm too lazy to look myself, but I believe there's still a thread started by Ssanf that explains it in detail (one of the best posts every, IMO!).
