Based on important issues brought up here, I am asking my affiliates (both current and prospective) to vote, expressing their opinion on the 2nd Tier of RL Affiliate Program.

Would you rather have us keep it (and pay you your 2nd tier commission when a sale comes through an affiliate you've referred to us) or dump it (and raise your commission level)?

Let me know.

Thanks,

Geno

I'm in the business of selling to the consumer, not recruiting other affiliates so I vote to dump it. Either way doesn't make much difference to me.

Every now and then, I'll get a 2nd tier commission from someone who happened to fall upon a particular aff program by clicking from my site and that's fine and dandy but not my overall objective. I think affiliates with sites designed for web mastres are more inclined to want 2nd tier commissions in place, not sites that cater to Internet surfers and buyers.

Why would I recruit a number of people to compete with me in the SEs and get a pitance when I could get higher rankings if they weren't around and get full commission for myself?

Sorry, but you will have to do your own recruiting. I won't help you obtain my competition.

I totaly agree with this.
Why would I want to recruit people to take money/comissions from me?

I third this opinion.

Dump the 2nd tier; a nice direct raise is always good.

General statement warning...

For the most part, people who promote 2nd tier instead of converting, will promote any second tier program, often putting your program in bad company.

Sure wan't me! I bought into this 2nd tier BS many years ago and actually had a bunch of sub-affiliates under me on CJ -BF and LS. Earned about 8.00 after several years ... all from merchants who stiffed all their affiliates when the .com bomb exploded.

Alright. So far we've got 2 votes for "Keep it!" and 10 - for "Dump it!"

Looking forward to more. Since this is an important issue, and I going to put up a little newsletter, announcing this poll to all of my affiliates. Hope with this announcement and Monday coming, we'll get more votes in...

It just occurred to me that it would make no sense putting it up in a separate e-mail to all of my affiliates as ONLY those that have been around ABW for a while will be able to vote… Hmmmm. I guess, I will not be asking them to do it, but just enter the link to the voting into my signature. Active affiliates – who care – will see it and vote.

While we can all give you our opinions, you are in the best place to see. Are you paying out alot in 2nd tier comissions? Are there any affiliates this is going to screw by taking it away? What % of your sales comes from secondary comissions? These are all things only you know.

Right. However, it looks like there is a number of affiliates that simply wouldn't join my program because they see that it is a 2-tier one. The % of sales comeing from the 2nd tier isn't all that great. So I want to make sure it is done right, and no serious affiliate is turned away by the fact that it is a 2-tier one.

Disclaimer: I have no clue who the Glowlite guy/girl in the other thread is (that is 'threatening' me saying: "Don't watch for my name to cross your desk on an application anytime too soon"). It's not about him/her at all. I've just had this issue brought up several times before. That's why this poll.

I guess, I should also put up another poll, making the question a bit more rigid: would the fact that a program is 2-tiered turn you away from it?

A merchant having a 2 tier program would not turn me away. But, I most likely will not promote the 2nd tier.

You need to continue to honor the 2 tier program that you now have but not accept any new ones if you decide to close it. The ones you have recruited people for you in good faith.

Good point. I wonder if this is technically doable at SaS.
