Oh yuck ... simmer cinnamon and vanilla extract in a small pot of water on the stove all day ... helps make the house smell good. Hopefully, it'll camouflage the dead mousie smell. EEEEEEEEEEEEwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Thanks, Rexanne. I'll try that. We'll be spending most of the day at my sister's house (playing with all the kids' new toys, no doubt!), so we'll have some respite from the smell. It's not quite so bad as it was last week. Still, I won't feel much better til we clean that thing out of the house.

Update (because I just know y'all are just dying to know ):

Apparently it was a RAT (biggest rat I've ever seen in person, too) that was causing the smell. And it wasn't in a duct, it was under the house.... slow-cooking on top of a furnace duct for at least 4 weeks. Ewww. Looks like a kitty might've got at him before he somehow managed to crawl under the house. How he got under there, I don't know. But I'm sure as hell gunna figure it out!

Oh man ... what a horrid situation. Yuck ... hope the smell is gone at least.

Now I'm feeling all sorry for the poor rat who was injured and just trying to survive. :-(
