CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- A main ingredient in beer may help prevent prostate cancer and enlargement, according to a new study. But researchers say don't rush out to stock the refrigerator because the ingredient is present in such small amounts that a person would have to drink more than 17 beers to benefit.
Oregon State University researchers say the compound xanthohumol, found in hops, inhibits a specific protein in the cells along the surface of the prostate gland.

AP says it's true.

Beer is also a great source of chromium, which helps regulate blood sugar levels.

I always knew that a 12pk was just not enough!

Maybe that's why a few beer companies are now selling 18pk's.

Well, it looks as though the 18-pack is the "healthy" way to buy beer.

But I still like the comparison between a clock and beer packaging. 24 hours in a day - 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.

I saw that story today. My question is how long of a time period do you have to drink 17 beers? An hour? A day? A week?

Someone once asked me if I would eat a bowl of crickets for $5000. I had a similar question....How big is the bowl??

Bring those 17 's here and I will tell you the answer in a couple of hours, but just make sure that BurgerBoy is not around, because I don't trust that guy.

I'm glad that they ask you and not me, because I would not eat, not even one cricket for 1 Million dollars.

Believe it, or not.

I believe it and neither would I Mr. Sal. My kids watch this horrible show, Fear Factor ... I can't even watch it because people do stupid stuff (like eat crickets) for money. Grosses me out so much. I would pass on a million bucks (or more) for 99.9% of the things these people do for "money." OH YUCK

I believe you Rexanne,

But, while I can still watch the Fear Factor Show at any time, there is no way in hell that I would ever do, some of the that those $50,000.00 dreamers do.

While I am willing to try do any of the physical stuff they do there, (even for free), there is no way in this life time that I would eat any of those things for any amount of money.

An 18 pack will destroy any hope of maintaining a 6 pack.

Though, Joe, there isn't enough chromium in beer to regulate your BSL, but it does work in supplement form.

The question is WHAT beer do you prefer?

I didn't say you're not

I'm just partial to girl beer-fans since I'm marrying one.

All drinks have their time and place, and when it's a hot sunday afternoon, and I'm watching a world cup game at my local pub, a cold beer tastes pretty good!

Or when celebrating another Cubs Win!

Or when lamenting another Cubs Loss!

Or when outside futzing with the BBQ!

Or when outside by the pool!

The list goes on.....

Rexanne, did you know that the average human being eats 5 to 7 spiders while sleeping during their life?

Someone offered me chocolate covered ants one time. They were kinda crunchy but overall pretty tasty.

Apparently you don't drink enough beer!!!

I take about 200 mcg of chromium daily...the stuff is like magic for me. Helps with cravings, mid-afternoon fatigue. I love chromium!

Im into over-hopped American ales right now, ie goose island, sierra nevada, etc etc etc. Once it cools off I'll move to unfiltered wheat beers. How about you?

Heineken is my poison of choice.

Joe, I worked with Juan Pierre's brother for a year or so. I have followed his career. Glad to see him with the Cubbies.

The winners of the last Amazing Race had to eat a bowl of crickets and grasshoppers in one leg of the race. They kept saying "for 1 million dollars" as they ate the crickets. But this is a popular dish in Thailand, fried with onions and spices. I was watching Survivorman on Discovery the other day and he skewered up some grasshoppers and cooked them with a little fire. Gotta do what you gotta do to survive! If I were stranded without any food or water I'd eat a cricket or two as long as I've got a fire to cook them with.

I don't think it's gross.

Joe, add cinnamon (pill form, not cinnabons) with the chromium and it will also help the BSL.

No, actually, I don't drink THAT much beer. I like to get SOME work done.
