Geno: You commented that the book is not geared at affiliates, which is true on the surface.
At the same time, I think it is an important read for affiliates, as someone who is new on the publisher side can learn a LOT about what to look for in well managed program, and further, they will be able to recognize the difference between an actively and passively managed program, and be better armed to make decisions on who to promote. I've recently brought on 2 people at my company, one technical, and one "traditional" marketing/ business operations. Rather than have them start at ground zero on learning affiliate marketing as affiliates, I'm having them skip straight to your book, as I think it helps on both sides of the coin. So yes, that means 2 more orders are coming ![]() That being said, I wouldn't recommend someone hopping into the OPM game or even the affliliate publishing game based on the knowledge of your book alone, but coupled with working with someone who knows the industry (such as a merchant hiring an OPM firm, or a webmaster starting to work with another webmaster who has affiliate publishing experience), it can be a solid foundation to refer to nearly a daily basis.

Geno, thanks for publishing the book. It is now officially my affiliate marketing bible.
Wish I met you in person at the Affiliate Summit in Miami. |

Thank you for your kind words, Stefanie.
If, upon reading it in full and with a critical mindset, you do not find something you wish was there, or find things that you would argue with, or add to... shoot me an e-mail and I will seriously consider every line that comes from you. I will tell you even more (and not only you, but anyone and everyone who may have something to say about the book): if your criticism is constructive and leads me to improving the book, I will mention your name (and/or your company's name) in the second edition. ![]() Some of the most frequently mentioned suggestions have already included an index, a proper conclusion, an appendix with all of the useful material that AMs may use in their daily work (newsletter template, TOS template, etc). I am mentioning these so that people do not mention them to me again. They will be included in the second edition... What I am now looking for are more content feedback than structural one. Looking forward to criticisms, suggestions and feedback. You may either e-mail me at geno/at/amnavigator.com or post here (if you wish). Many thanks. Geno PS: Stefanie, I'll be at the Affiliate Summit in Vegas (much closer to you than FL). Hope to meet you there.

Hey Geno, how close are you to Edition 2.0? I wish to purchase, but don't want to find out that the next edition comes out next week or next month. I think it will be a good read for me as an affiliate and I hope to learn a lot from it. Thanks for all you do here!

sfcom,
Unfortunately, the publication of the second edition is probably not going to happen until Jan-Feb 2008. On a separate note, the book is really geared more towards merchants and affiliate managers (especially the ones that are just starting on this path). Of course, as an affiliate you will pick up interesting things from there too, but I do want to mention to you that it is a guide for merchants and AMs. Thanks. Geno

It could still help you as an affiliate. You can read the things Geno recommends to merchants in regards to what to avoid and what to do. Then look for those things as an affiliate and avoid the merchants that do the opposite of what the book says.

Great point! Affiliate who recognize what AM's are trying to achieve can quickly get to the head of the line. Also, communicating on a new launch can help trim out the program and get to a productive state sooner. I have several affiliates who jump on a program and ask for specific links, we build them out quickly and they grab them and go.
Geno's book is a great guide for merchant and affiliates, a good read! |

Geno:
As a newbie to the game of AM - I will certainly buy a copy of your book. It's definitely something that I must read in order to gain a sharp understanding of the business. Congratulations on (what it clearly seems) continued success! Ryan

I have a lot of good comments on the first edition (and they keep piling up), but no, it won't be out this winter, sfcom. Maybe closer to the end of summer.Thank you in advance for your understanding. Geno

OK. I give in. Do you have a copy sitting around that you can auto and ship with the Consumer's Eyes book? (when available.)
Going to order this one now. I can't afford to be behind in this game. Possibly you will offer 2nd edition access online to ABW'ers who purchased the first edition. ![]() -sfcom |

Unfortunately, I do not have a copy sitting around (gave away all of the ones that I had). They ship from Los Angeles (pretty much within one business day), while the autographed Online Shopping Through Consumers' Eyes books will ship from the Greater DC area once they are ready. Yes, if I were you, I'd order the Practical Guide now, and not wait until the second edition...
Thanks. Geno |
