On Vacation
I'm going on vacation as of Thursday afternoon, Sept. 6 and will be gone for about 2 weeks.
Unlike many, I won't be taking any laptops, treos, iphones, or other such antivacationary items. So except for library stops, I'll be offline until I return. Oh...and the destination is FLORIDA, where else? Some demographic checking has revealed that perhaps I should be looking at the next county over from where I had originally been interested in going, so I'll be having fun comparing the two areas in person.

Are you going to be in Orlando? I'll be heading there with the family after CJU. I think Mike Nunez is trying to organize a lunch during that time. If you're in or around Orlando, I hope you can come.

Lord, couldn't we all make some $$$ on THAT patch?! Vacations are no fun if you take work along with you. I always go through PC withdrawal, but after 3 days or so I find myself actually enjoying life. Have a GREAT time in Florida, Leader, you deserve it!! I am planning on hitting Naples after Xmas, can't wait.

Thanks all for the well-wishes!
After wrapping up some stuff here, it took longer than expected. So we've decided to go tomorrow. Usually I'm against waiting an extra day like that, but I don't think we'd get very far leaving tonight, even if I drive until the usual 2AM or so... Quote:
![]() But there are lots of little towns with libraries in 'em And, if I took any comps with me, I'd be attached to the thing so much, it'd be like I never went away. Quote:
But I'm on vacation and lunches are generally very early (don't forget prep/drive time), too early for me--so the chances of me making it aren't too great, sorry.

Have fun Leader... If we were down at our winter place, I'd invite you out for a day on the boat and then beverages on the pier at our favorite watering hole! Enjoy Florida.

Sept. 20 is the day we expect to be back here in MI. As usual, travel is by car, so we'll have left FL a few days before that. The tulips will be in by then, along with the customers--so I'll want to get the virtual doors open!

I'm now in the lobby of the Winter Haven Holiday Inn, where I'll be staying another day or two. Cool to have a computer right here--no need to try to get to a library while it's actually open this time!
On the other hand, there is a side-effect of people lining up to get on here... ![]() Polk County's looking like the winner after all. Pasco's got some good areas, but a lot of their towns are blighted with big citrus factories, yargh yargh! Those factories are about as exciting as oil refineries when it comes to the looks of 'em. I'd rather be near the groves instead of the factories! Quote:
Added: I just checked Weather.com. I see that MI people are suffering at 51 degrees! *Enjoys 75 @ 11:43PM, and it was about 91 during the day* It's just a matter of time before I make this permanant...

Back in MI
![]() Came back to a house that had gone down to 53 degrees--furnace is still cranking to bring it up to liveability. Crossing that Ohio border, it became obvious that it was the North again. Why? Because that's when the car had to be switched from having the aircon on, to having the heater on! Argh!! After checking out loads of land, I decided that I'd save up for at least 5 acres. That'll give lots of buffer room between me and any nosy types. A few years ago, I had bought 4 lots, hoping to eat up the other 16 or so that were for sale when I got more $$$. But someone else came and grabbed those before I could get 'em, and put up a load of houses. I didn't want neighbors--at least, not any close enough to be pests! So I flipped that land for a sweet profit before the real-estate prices started tanking. It now has 2 houses on it (in that sub, you need 2 lots per house. How come they don't just call it 1 buildable lot instead of 2 small lots, I don't know...). One of the houses is still vacant--and its address is 404 of all things! I suppose only a webmaster would think that such an address is just asking for a hurricane to hit it! I was hoping to find some other cheap lots, but far from being cheap, the current sellers are all dreaming on in a big way--prices are quite outsized! I could write a whole post about what I found looking at the current land situation...one realtor wanted $147k PER LOT! In an area with almost no development! LOL It was obvious that they'd owned the land for years...the streets had practically been reclaimed by nature! I had been hoping he'd want to unload it, cheap, since it obviously hadn't drawn interest. Instead, I found out that it hasn't been sold because he's smoking something really powerful or maybe he deludes that it's sitting on top of a gold deposit! Quote:
![]() So, the answer to "why wait" is because rent would leech off so much money that it'd be very counterproductive, assuming I rented at that or a similar place. (*ignores broken-down long-term-rental converted motel I saw, yuck*) On the way out, I picked up a newspaper, and there were a couple of properly-priced 5-acre parcels that I hadn't seen, but needless to say, it costs a lot more for 5 acres than a few lots. They do have vacant-land loans available in FL, but I don't want to sign up for any big debts. When others have gotten big debts, I notice that they often end up with the Living Death: Empl*yment. And I don't want THAT! So now I'm quite motivated to type more, and look for more stuff to sell, so I can buy a big parcel all at once and in cash!
