Phone Sales - Hide Number Feature(New)

We are pleased to announce that affiliates may now elect to remove the toll free ordering number displayed in the header by adding &nophone=true to the end of their affiliate links.

Example Links
Regular Link: http://www.magazine-agent.com/?aid=40785031
Modified Link: http://www.magazine-agent.com/?aid=40785031&nophone=true
(Note: Once you visit the nophone version you will need to clear your cookies to get see the standard version again.)

Activating this feature will set the visitors sessions to display an alternate header which does not include the phone number. Please note that this removes the number from the header only (and not the entire site).

Important Disclosure: This feature was largely created based on your (affiliate) feedback. Our own internal tests have shown that the decrease in conversions by not showing the number is far greater then the loss that occurs from any phone sales. Therefore, understand that using this feature will likely decrease your conversion rate. This being said, we always aim to give you the tools you want!

Thanks for the feedback on the effect that removing the toll free number has on conversions! I was going to suggest an A/B Test and might even do myself. Although I think it's a minority opinion among affiliates, I strongly believe that the increased conversions more than offset the phone leakage (just as your tests have shown).

Why not just implement phone tracking, though? That would be the best of both worlds.

Well first of all this solution was very quick and easy in the end. We are contemplating creating a tracking "promo code" but it will take time and would be part of a much larger initiative.

Promo code tracking is definitely they way to go. Glad you are taking the feedback from users to generate better content. As far as A/B testing, I have found that it is particularly effective when testing banners or other landing pages. It's definitely effective, but not recommended for something large scale. Stick with your promo code tracking idea, and I think you will see some improvements. Hopefully the new tactics work out.
