Down at the lower right of the message window, click "Full Header" to see the details of the email. You'll probably see that they set a contrived date. This way their emails will always display at the top.

So Alan, is this how those other guys got on Steve's list? Now we have to start following him around?

Open and view one of the offending messages. That's where you will see the full header link. Yahoo is pushing their new email interface. If you are using that, there may now be a different way of viewing the header. The one I described is in their old format.
The sender is "hacking" the email header before they send the message.
What can you do in Yahoo mail? Delete, and not much else.

They're not 'getting past security', Steve. Forging headers has been a pretty standard practice for spammers.... pretty much forever. It happens before they send the message, not after it gets to you - so it's not about your security.

And yeah, switch to GMail.
