Retargeting merely places a line of code on your site. It does track the pages that visitors visit, but it certainly is not spyware.
It's an online marketing strategy that focuses on getting visitors back to your site after they have left without making a purchase. It actually can be a very effective way to retain interest in customers who have already shown interest in what your products. Even Google agrees since they have incorporated retargeting with AdWords. |

if the visitor came in on a link from an affiliate with a 30-day cookie, was retargeted in two days and bought something? we've been through this before, I think. |

The retargetting only firms get paid via CPM. Google retargetting is part of AdWords and ads incremental sales. PPC trumps affiliate.
Have been approached by an affiliate that specializes in retargeting but requires a script on the merchant site which isn't going to fly with most. |
