Looks like Coupon Cabin has been sending out cease and desist letters to those sites who do that - http://paretoefficient.com/2008/09/27/really-cease-and-desist-come-on/
Saw that from Connie's site - http://www.iamflamingo.com/ And then this one, looks like they're taking action against Coupon Chief - http://www.iamflamingo.com/couponcabin.pdf |

The coupon sites that have the exclusive coupon are wasting their time.
In my opinion, you do not have an exclusive coupon, until you are guaranteed to get credit for all sales that use the coupon, even if you don't have the last click.. Until then, you don't really have an exclusive coupon.

For my part I think that posting others exclusive codes is shady & my T&C have a section in there about only posting codes provided to them through the SAS interface.
Maybe some of the coupon sites that don’t steel affiliates can contact the writer in this story and let her know the real deal. http://blogs.wsj.com/wallet/2009/02/...l-price-again/

Creating an 'exclusive' coupon takes only a few minutes.
Ensuring that all sales that use that coupon are credited to the original affiliate takes more time. Most affiliate managers are far too lazy to do this necessary step. This entire 'exclusive' coupon debate would be solved today if affiliate managers did their jobs correctly.

Frankly, when user-submitted coupons are submitted, the action that should be taken is a DMCA claim and/or a C&D. If the site does not abide by the provisions of the DMCA, then legal action can be necessary. For instance, this coupon site has the right idea - http://www.mybargainbuddy.com/dmca.shtml .
As a courtesy, besides removing a coupon, the offending site should block/moderate coupon submittions with a certain phrase "cabin" in them, but this can be ineffective. How would the admin of a user-submitted coupon site know that a coupon code such as "CAB5OFF" would belong to CouponCabin? I'm exploring the field at the moment for a potential site, and I would make sure to include filters (and have a way for other sites to submit coupons to block) to avoid any legal issues regarding posting of exclusive coupons. |

Viator has some specific exclusive coupons, that are given out based on many factors, and they only work when a specific affiliate link is clicked in conjunction with using that coupon. However not every merchant has that capability. |

I think this issue is an absolute waste of time debating.
Basically coupon sites are trying to fight the same battle as the movie studios and music companies - both of whom have been chastised by the media/popular opinion for being overtaken by the internet & technology. This issue is a fact of life on the internet - rightly or wrongly - and it won't be fixed by some two-bit coupon site with access to a cease and desist template. Everyone would be better off dealing with the reality of the situation by dumping the concept of exclusive coupons because the concept simply does not work.

First off, congrats on being a Golden Knight
![]() Nothing more than what's on the news release - "Coupon Chief, Inc. Agrees to Stop Using Infringing Coupons And Pays Undisclosed Sum for Past Use" But they still have lots of other sites exclusives, including some of mine. But good for Coupon Cabin. |
