I was planning to promote InMotion Hosting, a merchant at CJ. But read their TOS and it doesn't seem affiliate friendly. If you are planning to promote web hosting programs, make sure you read their TOS. Specially, InMotionHosting TOS:

Quote:
You are only eligible to earn a commission if the 1 year value the hosting account you send to InMotion Hosting, Inc is valued at $83.40 or greater. Accounts valued less than $83.40, including but not limited to domain purchases, other hosting accounts, or hosting accounts with smaller subscription lengths are not allowed and will not be considered at any time for qualification of an affiliate payout.

Any sales generated in conjunction with special discounts, coupons or similar offers are not commissionable.
So, if a visitor signs up through your affiliate link and signup for their VPS hosting which costs at $49.95/mo and chooses to pay monthly, you are not going to get commission? Wow ..

The one-year value of a $49.95/mo account is $600.

Did they refuse to pay a commission on such an order?

Yes.
It is funny, most webmasters sign up for monthly web hosting which is going to be less than $83 or whatever amount they have mentioned.
So, all those sales are going to be non-commissioned? Isn't this bull crap?

Hi emphimy,
You bet, I'm already your affiliate and undoubtedly, you have the best figures at SAS in the Web Hosting category.

This kind of confuses me. The TOS says annual value, which would be exactly a $6.95/mo package. That's how I read it.

So anything greater than $6.94/mo they should pay. They're saying that's wrong?

No, they dont offer any coupons or discounted deals (Checked in CJ, the By Promotion fields are grayed out).

How about this scenario ..

The VPS hosting "monthly" costs $49.95 (Totals to $599.40 for 1 year hosting)
However, if a client pays "yearly", it costs $39.95/mo. ($479.40 for 1 year hosting paid upfront).

Now that is a good discount .. isn't it?

So, InMotion Hosting TOS says - Only if a customer signs up for yearly hosting, you get paid. But if you are offering the so called 'discount' in this scenario, you won't get paid even if the customer signs up for yearly hosting.

Excellent way to rip-off affiliates!

Hi TopTenServices,

It appears you misinterpreted our Affiliate TOS. As stated by DavidH & Kevin above, the 1 Year Value of a 256M VPS referral is $599.40. Well above the required $83.40/yr for commissions.

In addition, a referral of a Launch account that pre-pays for 24 months (which is our lowest priced plan @ $6.95/mo) equals a 1 Year Value of $83.40 ($6.95 x 12) which is commissionable.

Basically any sale of our Business Class, VPS or Dedicated web hosting plans are commissionable. What are not commissionable are the referrals of our Value Class/Personal web hosting plans.

I searched for your email address in CJ and did not find a Publisher within our program with that email address. If you are within our program please email me your PID and I'd be happy to look into any issues you have further.

If you have questions regarding our affiliate program or our TOS please feel free to contact us.

Thank You,

Darin Hardy
